Review:I gave this book three stars (two stars now - see update below) because I don't dislike it but I also don't really like it that much. I think the character development of the three sisters (I like Lizzy's story line the best) earned it three instead of two. There seems to be a lot of filler in the story so I find myself skimming over parts of it. I am at page 295 and will finish it but I don't anticipate that I will like the book any better at that point. Like other reviewers, I feel the book ... Read more
Review:This novel is sweeping in its scope, telling the story of the violence in Jamaican politics, the death of Bob Marley and the rise of the Jamaican drug posses, all revealed in spurts and starts through the eyes of a disparate series of characters who come and go but who all leave an indelible mark on the novel. A history lesson told by an engaging ensemble cast on all sides of the crisis, from the jaded CIA operatives to the killers and the politicians that turned Jamaica into a bloodbath in the ... I had not read anything by Sara before but I definitely will again. I loved the completeness of her characters and the humor and heat she was able to bring out. It was a nice detour away from the typical "duke" story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Read more
Review:From an adventure story this is an excellent read. However, Swift contrasts the lands that Gulliver travels to his own native England to make a political statement. I found the political dialogues to be a little bit of a turn off. I would still recommend this as long as you don't let the political stuff get in the way of your enjoyment. Read more
Review:I've read every one of Edward Rutherford's books, some several times. This one was a disappointment. I think what bothered me was the lack of continuity. It was like someone had dropped all the chapters and not bothered to put them back again. I lost the feeling of history I usually get with his work, of following the families as they progress (or not) through the centuries. This jumped around so much that I couldn't keep up with them, even with a scorecard in the frontispiece. Read more
Review:The narrator 'Anais 9000', as you say, is no more than a machine. It jumps over and mispronounces some words and has a completely horrible voice. Listening to this disc for 5 minutes gives one a headache, let alone 13 hours. You should be ashamed to market such a phoney product. I am horrified. I intend to apply for a partial refund, as I had to take the product out of its packaging to hear just how unsatisfactory the narration was. Read more
Review:Cleverly's novels deserve to be better known in America. I am very fond of this one
because Joe Sandilands is such a great character.Seances were very popular in the 1920s. Cleverly conveys wonderfully the physical attraction of Simla but also the feeling that the English people living there all have something to hide.
Cleverly conveys the effects of a train crash on those involved. Read more
Review:First of all, my Kindle download was for 34 books rather than 50 so they must have added some since I downloaded it. It took me over a year to read them all, but I am glad that I did. Chesterton is a great writer, and his writings included poems, plays, fiction, non-fiction, biographies, Christian apologetics, and newspaper columns. You get an excellent view of England of 100 years ago in the time that he wrote, but at the same time, many of the problems and political controversies he wrote ab... Read more
Review:Also a lovely book. sad at times, amusing at others. Written with a sense of how the gentle side of human nature
behaves. Also looks at some of the crazy co-incidences of life.
How people can come together, through some inexplicable event, of a lost item..
I really loved it and read it after reading "Lost for words" by Stephanie Butlar. some of the little stories are quite surprising, some very amusing.

Review:Good story even if you have never seen the movie. If you have seen the movie, there are nice details the movie couldn't bring to the screen and the characters will be familiar with more details into Holly's family. Read more
