Review:This is definitely one of Pilcher's better novels, although I love them all. I particularly enjoy her descriptions of Cornwall and the beauty of nature that she captures. Her characters are very entertaining as well. Read more
Review:So many commercials at the holiday time. To have a 900 page triple novel, sweet! Over half way through, thinking about the next one. I do love Amazon's quality service and infinite selection at unbeatable prices. Open a book America! There is a reward under the covers! Read more
Review:Good read if you like this genre. An excellent beach+ book with good character development and especially good food + wine descriptions. Yes I get that we all kind of know how it will end, but how can you not love Bisquit + Chalky? Read more
Review:I have always enjoyed all of James Clavell's books of China and Japan. His characters are strong, and the story widespread with intrigue, suspense, love and sorrow. You don't want it to end - pure reading enjoyment. Read more
Review:Absolutely gorgeous book. I'm so pleased to have this and read it. It's a classic that is as classic as they come. The previous owner took excellent care of it. It feels like an original first addition, and I am one that has an appreciation for those sorts of things (history). I love it. Read more
Review:This book started out wonderfully, but at about the middle of the book it got confusing. The story started out as a story about William and Nora. However it jumped to the story of Rowan and his mother and the woman that he was supposed to marry. And then to Bree and that situation with the clans, and her need to do the right thing for the clan. The author also did not put any sort of indication that there was a switch between what character and what story line was going on at the moment. I had t... Read more
Review:First off, King Lear has always been my favorite play, followed closely by Othello and After The Fall. I like comic books, but I'm skeptical of the "Illustrated Classics" approach. So I was a bit leery buying this (pun unintended, but not bad).
It's fantastic. The art is lovely and has a timeless, surreal quality. The stylizations only enhance it. Especially watch the Fool: he's always been one of the best of Shakespeare's characters, and the capering, size-changing, conjuring presence Ia... Read more
Review:These books by Brackston are somewhat interesting but there's too much "talk" and not enough action. She's too wordy for the most part - you get the impression she's trying to build up her work by talking and talking and talking. Read more
Review:Of my growing list of Hornblower-books-read I found this to be most helpful in seeing how the gallant Hornblower found his way into the British Navy (he was apparently gang-pressed, but as a midshipman). This book is pretty much a compendium of short stories that light the way by which we know this wonderful character. We see him when he comes aboard and promptly gets seasick, but then how he rises to many occasions of dealing with the seas or his enemies. Forester is a wonderful writer and t... Read more
Review:I am reading the Hornblower series for the third time, and loving it! Strangely, two of the volumes are not available on Kindle. I read the series as a boy and love to go back to it. I just found out that CS Forrester lived in Berkeley and is buried in Orange County California. Read more
