Phenomenal Woman: Four Poems Celebrating Women

Review:The book was in OK condition.. But it was a gift from someone....with a message from the giver...so I will never think of the book as mine because it has someone else name in it..shame on the person for selling their gift. Read more

Review:I have been a student of the classics since I was young. Naturally, I had been exposed to the Aeneid early on in the fashion that most students are: with the revered Robert Fitzgerald translation. Through the years many translations, both good and bad, have been published: Humphries, Lombardo (probably one of the best), and Mandelbaum to name a few of the most popular.

My adoration of the Ruden translation started in the most modest way. I was browsing through volumes in a used book st... Read more

Review:"I am writing the best poems of my life... They will make my name." --Sylvia Plath, on the Ariel poems
It is a pity that Sylvia Plath is so underestimated--most people I know have never heard of her, and those who have dismiss her as an angry feminist who committed suicide. It is a sacrilege to sum up her person so: Plath is one of the most important poets of our century, and Ariel her most important work.
In it one can find the famous poems "Daddy", in which Plath shakes loose her restrai... Read more

Review:Daley-Ward's words are exquisite. It's like having your favorite chocolate bar melt in your mouth. I couldn't put it down until it was done. She is a masterful storyteller with great imagery, who knows how to make words dance on the page. At the same time, everything she writes is so breathtakingly honest, and feels so relatable. So human. As if the person who wrote this could be my best friend, or the woman sitting next to me on the train. Her work is nothing short of genius and deserves more ... Read more

Metamorphoses (Oxford World's Classics)
Metamorphoses (Oxford World's Classics)

Review:This translation is ok, but, as I wrote, I have seen better. Keep in mind, this is my opinion. If you like the style I am about to describe, then by all means get this book.
It is in a more poetic verse, and the author takes some liberties with the translation. He also uses some arcane terms, which, when it was translated, were fine but it gives it this very out-dated feel to it. For example, the use of the word "Gore" as part of a description of the abode of Envy. If you look at the direct L... Read more

Black Book of Poems
Black Book of Poems

Review:Not only are these poems sweet and to the point but they've all got a deep Grimm undertone. The kind of undertone that makes you realize things about your own self. I felt a little more in touch with who I am after finishing this read and I also passed it on to others so that I could discuss it with others. I NEEDED to talk about this book. Just like you NEED to buy it. Read more

Review:I was taken by surprise by this book ! There were several poems that I related to which I found to be a bit of a shock for whatever reason. I guess I didn't think that there were others who have gone through what I have or have felt what I felt. Overall it was an excellent book filled with beautiful poetry! Read more

Tales from the Perilous Realm
Tales from the Perilous Realm

Review:J.R.R. Tolkien's legacy to the world was a tale of Hobbits and Rings. In Tales From the Perilous Realm, four short stories are added, only one of which is clearly a Hobbitish tale:

* Farmer Giles of Ham: A farmer gains courage as his dog loses it in search of a dragon.

* Smith of Wootton Major: Mysterious processes are afoot regarding cooks, travelers, children, and fairies.

* Leaf by Niggle: A relatively dark dramatization of an artist's creative focus.

* The... Read more
