Review:I was steered towards Algernon Blackwood’s The Wendigo by someone who read my admiring review of The Willows, another creepy, wonderfully written novella or long short story by Blackwood.
And I must say that I found The Wendigo an even more unsettling read, though also showing Blackwood’s particular interest and strength – the wild, wild, natural world, far from civilisation, and how that ancient world might be at best, indifferent to the puny biped who so often despoils and abuses it, bu... Review:The book is amazing. It is the foundation for Transaction Analysis. All people play games with each other, either consciously or unconsciously. This book is easy to read and will teach you how to spot a game and how to not fall into its trap.
I highly recommend it for everyone. Read more
Review:Not your ordinary how-to guide at all. Chuck Wendig kept me laughing as he pointed out the numerous pitfalls on the writer's path. Every penmonkey and aspiring penmonkey should read this, even if you've already read a thousand guides for writers -- the hilarious asides and examples are moca-fudge frosting on a big old chocolate cake of good advice.
Note: There is a bit of bad language, so if you can't stand curse words... well, you'll be missing out. Read more
Review:Why can’t this series have better covers? I know accuracies are never true to books (or at least they’re dang rare) but come on! His height! Eugh.
Anyway. Told from Roic’s point of view (one of the lesser ranked staff in Vorkosigan house), we see guests and distant family return to Barrayar for the wedding between spoilers. You know whom. One of those who returns is Taura who is already getting on in her years, and we see more of her than most of the other characters. It would have also b... Read more
Review:I watched the TV show Longmire and became hooked because of the exceptional cast of characters. After reading "Christmas in Abaroka County", I now realize the author, Craig Johnson created those characters. I enjoyed these stories. Read more
Review:Very entertaining book! Likable characters and story. Are there really people with this ability? I just wish the book was longer! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I think anyone from teens to adults would like this book. Read more
Review:Lisa Gardner has never written a disappointing book. Ever since I discovered her as an author, I have been a complete fan. I just started reading the Linda Barnes series, which is comparable to Lisa Gardner. They have a lot of the same characters from earlier books, but always a different plot. You get to know the characters, their personalities and quirks. I have gotten to love all of the characters in her books. Read more
Review:If you've been reading memory palace techniques but stop short of trying it out, this is the book to get you started.
It got me building my own palace and I'm using it right now. With all skills, it takes practice and it does feel clumsy at first to map things into the palace. I'm still getting the hang of it.
A couple of possible Improvements will make it 5 stars for me
1) Some of the examples are too americanized and hard to imagine. Localizing it or using more global/famous e... Read more
Review:This short story did hold my attention. I would have liked to hear more about Martha's recovery and beauty's life after Nancy's departure. I pray for the children of abuse. I gave it 3 stars bc there were a few words / phrases that were seemingly not correct grammar (deaf trap). Read more
Review:For a very short story Tonight packs quite the punch. I loved it so much I wanted so much more. These two had such chemistry packed into 48 short pages.
It may seem like a quick fall into love but it was actually 5 years in the making. After being told by his brother that Wiley is not gay David had no hope for anything more than his lingering stares at his brothers best friend and his vivid fantasies to keep him company. But what if Derek has been wrong this whole time, what if Wiley is a... Read more
