The Reapers' Song (Red River of the North Book #4)
The Reapers' Song (Red River of the North Book #4)

Review:I enjoy reading Historical Christian Fiction and have enjoyed this series. The first book was given to me by the owner of a used bookstore. I was hesitant to begin, not knowing of this author. Having been born in South Dakota with a Norwegian heritage, I found these books to be fascinating! Read more

The Power and the Glory
The Power and the Glory

Review:This grim and pessimistic view of the world south of the border during the 1930’s was hailed in the literary world as one of Greene’s best, but it plunges readers into a milieu of racial disgust, religious bigotry, and personal despair. The plot can be reduced to a few sentences, so the bulk of the 220 pages presents exposition and deep introspection it requires many chapters to actually identify the unheroic protagonist, one unnamed “whisky priest.” Hunted by a megalomanic Lieutenant--determine... Benediction (Vintage Contemporaries)

Review:I just finished the third of Kent Haruf's Plainsong trilogy. I am deeply moved. He finds a way to present the ordinariness of life in a transcendent way. Somehow, by the end of each of these books, I saw into the beauty and breadth of what it is to be human. Can't recommend these books enough. Read more

Shadow of the Mountain: Exodus
Shadow of the Mountain: Exodus

Review:This book gives such an interesting and fun perspective of the exodus story. Cliff tells this story from an angle I'd never considered, that of an Egyptian. It is both heart wrenching and incredible to consider from that perspective. This is indeed FICTION and the author does a fantastic job weaving different possibilities into historic realities. I highly recommend this book. Read more

The German Girl: A Novel
The German Girl: A Novel

Review:I enjoyed reading The German Girl but at times found myself experiencing the emotional traumas that the characters were experiencing. Well written. I did find the pace slow but this is a positive as once again it brought me into the story so deeply that I was also experiencing being on the ship living the sad and difficult experiences that the author describe so vividly. I would definitely recommend this book. Read more

A New Day Rising (Red River of the North Book #2)
A New Day Rising (Red River of the North Book #2)

Review:Loved the series--I teach about pioneers in my third grade classroom, so this was right up my alley. :) Because it's a series, you get a lot of reminders about the past experiences of the characters, and the author gets better and better about not including as much of the past with each novel in the series. In This Moment: A Novel
In This Moment: A Novel

Review:This novel was the simple truth of how our freedom of worship is being threatened in today's world! And how we, as being believers in the one true god, should step out in faith in our daily walk.

One Tuesday Morning (9/11 Series, Book 1)
One Tuesday Morning (9/11 Series, Book 1)

Review:This was truly heart wrenching. Karen captured the drama that may have indeed surrounded the horrific tragedy that happened to our country on that fateful day of September 11, 20001. It stunned the world but Karen wove it into a novel that brought good out of an otherwise horrible event. I would highly recommend every American read this book. Read more

Someday (Sunrise Series-Baxter 3, Book 3)

Review:As usual, this book was FANTASTIC! I always have a real serious letdown when I finish one of Karen's books and there isn't another one ready to pick up. She's one great Christian writer and I only wish she could turn them out faster. Read more
