Review:This book was valuable and entertaining. The author uses "attraction principles" as her ten commandments of dating, which are similar to the bestseller "The Rules", yet her ideas are fresh and original. In fact, the authors of "The Rules" endorse this book. I especially enjoyed the chapters about "playing dumb", "renewing the mental challenge" and "keeping your pink slip", which are very much about pride, poise and self-discipline.
Though the author's precepts were excellent, I thought the bo... Read more

Review:Sophie wakes up one morning and her husband tells her that he has found someone else and he is divorcing her.
He has a plan. He will sell the house, he and his new junior girlfriend will move to an area near the junior girlfriend's family and Sophie will have to move too. Because Harry, their little boy, will have to be near his Dad.

Review:David Menasche's "The Priority List" is an excellent example of how one person can change the world for the better. While Menasche may no longer be able to teach in the classroom, he still continues to educate people through his words, and most importantly his actions. As you journey through the pages, you realize that he has not only discovered his purpose in life, but that he is willing to stay the course regardless of the challenges he faces. For his students, he gifted them with the ability... Read more

Review:Long awaited book since the first reviews and all the hype appeared. Thank goodness she lives in Berkeley, 2 minutes from me, as that means I'll be able to attend a book reading somewhere nearby. The lady's got guts, chutzpah, joie de vivre, etc - - - but most of all, boy, can she write!
The narrative arc of A Round-Heeled Woman is framed on Juska's desire for a truly fulfilling sexual relationship for, one may assume, the first time in her life. After decades as a teacher and a single mom, l... Read more
Review:This book is a classic. As foundation for understanding how loss operates in our lives from our earliest days, it is well-written, soundly-researched, and decidedly worth the read. Viorst asserts that loss is central to, and pervasive in, everyone's life. She divides our losses into four major categories: 1) the losses of childhood and the becoming of a separate self; 2) the losses of accepting the limitations of our power and potential including the forbidden and the impossible; 3) the losse... Review:Well-written and intense but so intimate - as if you’ve somehow always known Ariel. It’s a love letter to life that - like many great love stories - dances round and ultimately ends in the land of “what could have been.” I hung on nearly every word, highlighted passage after beautiful passage and wanted to weep with the raw realness of it all. Bravo for one of the most authentic memoirs I’ve read in a long time. Read more
