Review:Gloria Whelan's "The Homeless Bird" was a well-received read. First, I hadn't known that the National Book Award was given for young people's literature, and secondly, the book impressed me so much that I read the author's biography to find out more about her. At first I thought that she had lived in India, and was surprised to find out she had never been there, that her well woven, and interwoven tale resulted from a lot of investigation and good, dedicated writing.

Review:Do you like to read books about interesting and unique main characters? Then I have the best book for you! This book is full of unique characters. Gooney Bird Greene is the best book! My students and I laughed out loud in every chapter. This book is a chapter book, but it is a short chapter book. A new girl, Gooney Bird Greene, moves to Watertower. She is excellet at telling stories. All her stories are absolutely true! One reason you should read this book is because it is too funny! For example... Read more
Review:I remember I tried reading Stargirl a few years ago and wasn't able to finish. Now I have more endurance when it comes to books, which is good because this book took a lot of perseverance.
The premise seemed cute and as if it would be something I'd like. And it started out that way. Sort of. This book had no real flow and was just all over the place. One chapter, Jake and Lily are inseparable. Next chapter Jake is running off with his new friends, acting as if he doesn't have a sister. Po... Read more
Review:I find that a child's enjoyment & subsequent 'attachment' to a book or story is related to the enthusiasm with which it is read to them. This book is written to be read aloud. The story is fun and the illustrations are wonderfully done making it easy to present a captivating reading to your child. Read more
Review:I purchased one copy to donate this Christmas, then bought another as a gift for my six year old. One of the best children's stories I have read in a very long time, this book is fantastic for teaching a gentle lesson about acceptance and friendship. The illustrations are beautiful as well, and I know this will be one of those treasured stories my daughter returns to again and again. Read more
Review:I enjoyed this book because it showed true bonds between friends and family. Though it was a little tragic sometimes, that just built up a good story plot for me. I had been waiting to read this book for a while, and I'm glad Blaze was the one to survive, but Thorn became queen. The other two were just plain cruel. Read more
Review:The next chapter in an amazing and engaging series. My daughter loves this series so much. She has re-read the books so much they have started to physically fall apart so I have begun to get hardback editions for her instead.
The book arrived as promised and well packaged. The binding is tight and solid.
I did not read it my self but will ask my daughter about it for purposes of this review.
(NOTE: she read it cover to cover in one day)
I asked her to tell me about the book... Read more
Review:Eight books into the series, and Tui Sutherland hasn't lost steam. Each book continues the story from the previous ones, but through the eyes of a different main character. Peril is the the most deadly dragon in the world of Pyrrhia, and rightly so. With a simple touch, she can kill almost anybody!
Trying to redeem herself, we really get to know how she views herself and others; she was raised to be a killer, so that's how she thinks. It's scary to follow her through her adventure wit... Read more
