Amelia Bedelia (I Can Read Book)
Amelia Bedelia (I Can Read Book)

Review:My granddaughter is in Kdg. and I wanted to share some books with her that would make her laugh as well as learn. As a retired elementary school teacher I know how important it is to start children early with the reading process.

The books arrived earlier than I an anticipated and they are in excellent condition.

Thanks for the good and prompt service. Read more

Fox in Socks (Beginner Books)
Fox in Socks (Beginner Books)

Review:Hard pages, hard cover, small size pages, and of course the colors and whimsy that we all remember from Dr. Seuss. The book is approximately 5" x 6" (no ruler close by), so beginning readers will have a good time reading it without having to hold a heavy book. I let my grandsons hold the book while I read it to them, and when they're ready to read it, I'll be thrilled to just sit and listen. Read more

Free Fire (A Joe Pickett Novel)
Free Fire (A Joe Pickett Novel)

Review:I like the series, the only fault I can see is that I would like more of the family involvement as Mr. Box did in earlier books. That is one of the things I thought made his stories different from the run of the mill. Read more

Swann's Way: In Search of Lost Time, Volume 1
Swann's Way: In Search of Lost Time, Volume 1

Review:More than a commentary on Swann's jealousy or M. Charlus's homosexuality or the frivolity of the Guermantes' sorties, Marcel Proust's monumental work In Search of Lost Time paints the unsuccessful reconstruction of a forgone world and a lost existence from fickle memories, which like morning mists would fade with the rising sun. The narrator Marcel, longing for a past that didn't exist but must be created, sought to experience Bergson's continuous time rather than the fragmented and still-framed... Read more

The Way by Swann's (In Search of Lost Time - Volume 1) (Vol 1)
The Way by Swann's (In Search of Lost Time - Volume 1) (Vol 1)

Review:Look, there's great beauty and wit in some of Proust's writing - passages of poetic intensity that really are palpable. But let's be honest, for a modern person plowing through his books, reading Proust is an excruciating experience. One page of Swann's Way is like 20 pages of another classic novel, even one as good as, say, War and Peace. It's endless. And there are six more installments after Swann! I keep picking up and putting down Swann's Way. In that time I've read a dozen other works. Ma... Read more

A feel-good Irish summer read. (The Conor O'Shea Series)
A feel-good Irish summer read. (The Conor O'Shea Series)

Review:This charming tale is so beautifully written. The characters ccme alive right out of the pages and I simply could not put this book down. I fell in love with Conor O'Shea when I met him in book one of this series and was so happy to be able to follow him through books 2 and 3. Now I can hardly wait for the next one to see what and who he gets involved with on this beautiful little island of Ireland. Read more

Save the Day (Comic Reader #1) - LEGO DC Superheroes
Save the Day (Comic Reader #1) - LEGO DC Superheroes

Review:Great for any Batman fan, especially those of childhood age! My 5-yr old son loves this book. He enjoys flipping through the pages and asks for help reading it very often. It's great for keeping him entertained while also exposing him to early reading. Great book overall and I'm so happy we found it for him. Bonus, it's fun for adults to read, too! Read more

Winter's Child (A Wind River Mystery)
Winter's Child (A Wind River Mystery)

Review:I've read most of Margaret Coel's Wind River Wind River Mysteries, and this one is the usual great read. Ms. Coel is a master of ambience; I felt the cold and challenging winter weather on the high plains and mountain country. As usual, her characters are complex and believable. She is a historian, so she includes some actual history as experienced by an experienced and a novice historian. The plot was fine tool Read more

The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale (Penguin Classics)
The Secret Agent: A Simple Tale (Penguin Classics)

Review:Upton Sinclair at his best. The story of an accidental "secret agent" and the traps he falls into. The innocent victims this poor man takes with him is another example of the tyranny of the Fascist regimes Sinclair despises. It is an excellent example of this man's skills, never failing to keep the reader guessing as to where the grim tale will lead. If you like Sinclair with "The Jungle" and "King Coal", you will enjoy this one, too. Read more

Lord Jim (Oxford World's Classics)
Lord Jim (Oxford World's Classics)

Review:Conrad describes a scene, a feeling, a circumstance like no other. The story is a tale of internal struggle that might have been considered mediocre but for the unique style of Conrad's English. He is to be studied by any student of English literature. Read more
