Review:It's interesting that Le Guin is now returning to Earthsea, first with her new collection of stories, apparently to be followed with another novel. It is telling that she has created a marvelous invention -- despite all promises, even she can't help returning to the scene.
It starts off well. A WIZARD OF EARTHSEA is an intense starting point. It describes a harsh realm, where, even with the aid of everpresent magic, life is tough, and survival is eked out. From here, Le Guin launches her fabl... Read more
Review:I usually try to avoid cliches like the plague...but I could not put it down. The story completely captivated me. The characters were all totally believable, compelling and complex - I felt as though I knew every one of them, I was so involved in the book. Those key players to whom I related, I wanted to cheer on out loud in their endeavours and the ones I disliked - I wanted to punch in the throat. I loved the book because of the themes and ideas contained within the story. The nature of magic ... Read more
Review:Not a fan personally... Was very predictable in where they went with everything. I had a hard time staying interested and following along with the story and only finished it since I had paid for it. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt as well but to each his own.... Read more
Review:The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis. – Dante Alighieri
Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. – Carl Jung
“Come on,” he says. “Maybe I want to offer some fatherly advice or some (insert word here Amazon won't let me insert) thing, right?”

Review:Quite conceivably the best SF novel ever written - if that phrase means anything at all. There are two different achievements in this novel. Firstly, it is a superb portrayal of the mind of a scientist, showing the slow conceptual struggle towards a new idea (instantaneous communication). Worth reading just for that. The second achievement is that UlG explores the balance between the individualistic and collectivist strains in all societies. The device that she uses for this is a world (Ur... Read more
Review:Although I'm a big fan of the first three books of the Earthsea series, I think that this latest book (as was the case with Tehanu), was both overrated and underwhelming. It weighed in at just over 200 pages, which is somewhat anemic, and the book plods along at a slow pace ... and is unfortunately somewhat dreary and predictable.
IMHO, this series should have remained the trilogy that the author first envisioned it as ... books 4 and 5 are just anemic tack-on stories that lack the magest... Read more
Review:I received a copy of this book for an honest review
Jen is excited about her new job at Vida House Publishing. She is looking to make an impression and thinks she has found the next best seller. There is a room they call "Slush Mountain that has old seemingly unwanted manuscripts . She has been told never to go to that room. Surprisingly one day laying on the edge of her desk, is a story in an envelope which just appeared out of thin air. As Jen beings to read the story, she is mesmeriz... Read more
Review:This is a wonderful book. I was impressed with how the story was told, the detail and chemistry was off the charts. All the elements were well put. Iliana and Seb were so good together you could just feel what they were feeling. And the intrigue and hotness was just right. I volunteered to read and review an Advance Reader copy. Read more
Review:I was swept away from the first page of this incredible story! Next Year in Havana tells the story of a family in exile, of a people who are torn between country and family, between freedom and oppression, between hope and despair. Every page of this book is filled with passion...whether it is the passion between lovers, or the passion one has for their country...I could feel the passion and love deep inside me. There is so much to love about this book. The characters are so richly-layered, ... Read more
