Review:Neil Gaiman and Michael Reaves are both award winning writers. They also both rose to prominence outside the novel arena. Gaiman scripted the SANDMAN comic series that lasted 75 issues plus specials. Since that time he's gone on to script many other things, including novels, television shows, short stories, movie scripts, and continued working in the comics arena. His work for Marvel Comics to create the 1602 universe when heroes similar to the present-day Spiderman, Daredevil, Fantastic Fou... Read more
Review:This is an exemplary novel written by an amazing author. It is a collection of short stories that will grip your imagination and draw you into the story. Paper books give you three Sensory delights. Digital media will NEVER compare. Read more
Review:I wasn't sure what to expect from this book (except for the obvious).
It ended up being not so much a story in itself, but an introduction/summary of other, older stories. However, I think the title gives fair warning to this. It's 'Instructions' on what to do during your adventures, not the adventures themselves, which is actually quite a clever idea (leave it to Neil Gaiman to come up with something like that...if you hadn't already been able to tell, I'm a fan).
When reading wit... Read more
Review:One of many things that separated Neil Gaiman's Sandman from other comic book characters is that the foreboding but likable king of dreams has existed since the beginning of time and is supposed to be an archetype common to all cultures. Gaiman was free to visit any time and place he wanted to. However, he set all of Sandman's long story arches in the present. Tales from ancient Rome or Elizabethan England were limited to single issue stories bordering bigger epics. Fables and Reflections, place... Read more
Review:I bought this as a gift for my husband, who has read and enjoyed some of Gaiman's other work (e.g., American Gods). This book of short stories was a departure from what he had previously read, but he liked it so much he read it all in an afternoon. If you are familiar with Gaiman and enjoy his writing style, this book will not disappoint. Recommended. Read more
Review:I just read this with my children. My opinion of this book is positive in that it didn't have a predictable ending and the author didn't present a one sided conversation. It is a well rounded book with points of view from indian to settlers. About midway it did start to sound a bit like it might be going the way of propaganda but straighten up immediately. I recommend for all readers. There is some graphic details about killings so parents would need to monitor for age appropriation. Read more
Review:This book is 100% Max and friends. No Krian/Roman. If you have a problem with that, don't bother buying the book.
That said, it is of the same quality and adventurous spirit as the other books.
If you liked the previous books that had Max's POV, buy this book. If not, don't.
There are a few grammar errors, nothing too bad though. Read more
Review:This is a wonderful historical/fiction story of real life in early England up to the early twentieth century. Tense at times, not graphic but full of suspense, Edward Rutherford is a wonderful example of this type of writing. Read more
