Review:The compilation of new and previously published short stories shows Sherman Alexie at his best: contemporary, traditional, and unique. Whether humorous or sorrowful, in the city or on the reservation, Alexie's narratives resonate with humanity, warmth and wit. Read more
Review:Reservation Blues is neither fun nor happy; the book lives up to its title. The author shows the reader the lives of young Spokanes trying to find purpose and direction in their lives through music. The main characters are plagued by misfortune and malaise. They fail to find success. The author bravely declines to follow the standard pattern by offering the reader hope that the main characters' lives will turn out okay despite their crushing circumstances. Instead, the reader is shown the e... Read more
Review:The premise is gimmicky for my taste, but it has all the humor and pain you'd expect of an Alexie book. It's a short read full of Alexie's characteristically wonderful language. The themes are on the simple side and perhaps repetitive if you've read other works by the same author, but I can't say it was bad. Sherman Alexie's work has never been that, yet, at least for me. Review:Its OK.... I guess once I've read Red Queen (Victoria Ayard) and Thorn of Roses series (WHICH WERE AWESOME) the writing in this book was obvious & made no sense in some chapters (Don't want to spoil it for those who haven't) read it. Red was a little better than Key although the ending made no possible sense. I hope War is better & explains how Red ended because I'm left confused here where I'm normally anxiously grabbing the next book (to a series) opposed to now, I haven't even started... Read more
Review:The White Queen and The Red Queen: Formulaic precursors to Henry VIII series. Danielle Steel does War of the Roses. If you can keep track of the myriad of Elizabeths, Edwards, Edmonds, Richards, and Margarets, you are good. It'd be best to read these two overlapping tales together if you have air or beach time to kill. Otherwise, skip 'em.

Review:I absolutely adore Jenny Lawson and her work, and this book is no exception. It is so relaxing working my way through the pages, occasionally coloring bits here and there if I want to. Her words mean so much on each page. Definitely a buy you won't regret! Read more
Review:A radio commentator raved about this book as a book equal to The English Patient. So I thought it would be an interesting read. It's a pretty juvenile book. Rich lady is bored, goes to the country house, pirate has been staying in the country house, she finds out and invites him to dinner, you get the picture.
I stopped there because nothing appeared to be historically accurate. The story could have featured a bored housewife from 1950 and been exactly the same.
This is not equ... Read more
Review:I really liked this book for about 1/2-3/4 of the way through and then it lost me. But I appreciate how good it was up until then. I also liked that the house reminded me of an actual house I have seen on the central ca coast not far from Cambria. Was fun to think it may have inspired the author. It just got too goofy towards the end. Read more
Review:I bought this book after watching an episode of SourceFed. They compared it to many other great books that I enjoy, so I felt that I must read this one too.
The story itself is really great. It is a thought-provoking classic.
This book in particular is meant to be used by middle or high school students. It seemed to me to be very good at guiding its reader, if that was what you were looking for.
However, at almost 4 dollars, the 20 pages of story are not worth it. I would tr... Read more
