Its OK.... I guess once I've read Red Queen (Victoria Ayard) and Thorn of Roses series (WHICH WERE AWESOME) the writing in this book was obvious & made no sense in some chapters (Don't want to spoil it for those who haven't) read it. Red was a little better than Key although the ending made no possible sense. I hope War is better & explains how Red ended because I'm left confused here where I'm normally anxiously grabbing the next book (to a series) opposed to now, I haven't even started reading it. We will see how this goes.....

The Key (Book 1) and Red are wonderfully written. They pull you in. The author creates fantastic character development. You can feel the crackle and sizzle between the characters. I read them both over two days and am looking forward to the third!

This was a really entertaining book to read. I liked it even better than the first book of the series, The Key. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time and you fall more in love with the characters!

I'm not one for huge long reviews, so ill keep it short. Rema is rescued, Darmik searches for her, finds her and the rebels, he pledges himself to her, and captain kidnaps her to take to Epmerion to publicly murder her. That's most of the important stuff i think. Bai

Just as with the first book in the series, the editor failed to catch problems. I am only a couple pages in and the author used the word taunt to describe how tight the rope is. Taut is the correct word. I like the books, but wonder why obvious mistakes are not fixed.

I was so excited about this series. I loved The Key I thought I finally found a book that I could enjoy and have fun with. But with the Second book RED I found that Jennifer uses foul language and sex in her book. I really will miss the third book. I enjoy books that have christian standards and does not use bad language and pushing sex in their books. It is a shame because I really enjoyed the first one and was looking forward to a great series. I know I am a small percentage of those who like good clean fiction but I wanted others to know who are looking for the same type of literature. I hope she will change her writing because she is a good author.

RED is an outstanding sequel to The Key where we delve deeper into the mystery, lay claim to the heart of love, and step forward into a destiny birthed from dreams. We not only see Rema transform into the captivating princess that she was born to be, but we also begin to catch glimpses of the strong and compassionate queen that her people so desperately need. Prince Darmik continues to prove why he is worthy to hold Rema’s heart and her hand as he bravely stands against his family in order to put her on the throne. Granting us further admission into her deadly and beautiful world, Jennifer Anne Davis continues to weave this breathtaking epic adventure of quiet strength, undying hope, and relentless love.
Rema has become so much more than just a simple merchant’s niece. She has proven that she has an inner strength that even she was not aware of which has helped her to overcome horrendous circumstances. Even amidst her doubts, she knows that she has found a tender and passionately love with Darmik, and in trying to keep her heart alive, she holds onto a tiny hope that what they briefly shared is still alive and will come back to her. Her life has become something that is far beyond even her own dreams could create. Pushing ever onward, she searches for where she belongs while desperately wondering what her future holds in store.
I continue to marvel at the woman that Rema is becoming. She finds a strength that has yet to fail her, a determination that knows no bounds, and a heart that longs to hold and care for her people. As she learns of the real plight of her people, she feels an impending revelation of who she really is. Her heart will not allow her to become anything less than who she was born to be. She feels the heavy mantel of her destiny as it begins to fall upon her small shoulders, and she draws strength from her newfound friends to help her carry this majestic burden. This amazing character is just beginning to blossom before our eyes, and I eagerly await the presentation of the full bloom of this wild rose.
Darmik continues to surprise me as he begins to allow himself to finally see his people and his kingdom through the eyes of his heart. Almost too late, he realizes the pain and turmoil that his people are forced to endure in the name of comfort and indulgence for his father and brother. His determination to do whatever he can to right all of the terrible wrongs that he has seen and done forces him to seek out Rema and the rebels to join with them. After his heart and mind have given up their fight, he gives in and allows himself to completely open his heart to Rema proclaiming his love and devotion to her. He knows that time and victory may not be on their side, and he desires to embrace the sweet and tender love that they share before he loses this last ray of hope in his life.
This story just keeps getting better and better, and I love absolutely everything about it! Fantasy has always had a special place in my heart because in those stories you can truly follow your heart and there is no limit to the possibilities. I enjoy the fantastic rush of hope that surges through the pages of this story even when it is being beat down and smothered. It will not easily die because where there is still life there is hope. The hope that lives in our heart far longer than it should is not logical for the heart is not controlled by the mind. The mind has no power over it, and so it will continue to live and flourish of its own will. I pray that you allow the hope in your heart to flourish no matter what you are going through. Your circumstances do not define who you you. Only you can define who you are.

What another amazing book by Davis!! I love this series to pieces and am so glad I decided to pick up the first book. It captivated me and took my breath away. Davis's writing and even pacing was spectacular and such a thrilling ride of ups and downs!
The characters were so awesome, I instantly connected with Rema from the first book. And I really don't know why because in she wasn't my normal protagonist. In the first book she wasn't a bad-ass chick on a mission, she was a big sweet softy. Naive and unaware of the reality of the world around her, but yet still a feisty, determined, strong willed, and all around good person. So I guess all those qualities allowed me see the fierce fighter inside Rema.
But in this book, Rema was the opposite of her soft demeanor from book one. She was a girl who went through something that changed her. Unwilling to be the trusting, sweet, naive girl she once was, but still unsure of what her role is and where her life was heading, and if she ultimately had it within her to fight back. But by the end of this book she built herself up to the understanding of what she needed to be: A girl on a mission, with a vendetta to seek justice for her family and all the ones in her kingdom who have been wronged and suffered at the hands of the king and is evil son Prince Lennek. And I loved watching her tremendous character growth from book one. And how she took the injustice done on herself, and turned it into a beacon of will and determination to see all the wrongs done to those on the island righted, and as a path to reclaiming the kingdom and ending all the suffering!
And Darmik was another great character that I just loved! Like Rema, I instantly connected with him also. And though he was the son of the evil king, and also the commander ruling the kings army, and leader of the ones causing the people suffering, I still seen that he was a good person underneath his preside. But was just mislead by his desires of wanting to be apart of his family that he's always been neglected from. And I think that blindsided him to the actual wrongs he was inflicting on his people by doing the kings bidding. But in this book Darmik was battling with what was right and what was wrong, and Rema was the turning point for him. An eye opener for all the wrongs that he's been causing on the Island for a long time. And he ultimately turned his allegiances to the rebels to fight against his father. And that just further proved I was right for putting my faith into his character. ;)
THE PLOT
REMA:
Barely escaped her public execution, Rema is now coping and trying to understand who saved her and why. She was rescued by rebel forces, the same rebel forces that king Barjon and the man she's come to care for, Prince Darmik are hunting down and eliminating one by one. Unsure of what's going on and who can be trusted, Rema has no choice but to remain at the rebels fortress, because she's now a wanted woman all over the Kingdom, and their out for blood--her blood.
Crown Prince Lennek and the evil king want the noose around Rema's neck so badly she can taste it. But thanks to the rebels who rescued her, she was able to escape with her life, at least for the time being. But the question still remains why did these rebels help her, and what do they ultimately want from her?
Allied with the rebels, Rema trains daily, building her strength and learning the skill to protect herself when the kings army closes-in. But within the rebel fortress, Rema finds answers she didn't even know their were questions too. She was saved for a reason, a very good reason at that. And the rebels want her to commit to their cause not because she's another able body, but because she is The Key to the corrupt kingdoms undoing. She's the only one able to bring the kingdom to it's knees, and then rebuild it beyond it's once glory...
DARMIK:
Shunned by his father, the King of Greenwood Island, tortured by his brother, the Crown Prince, and betrayed by the girl he's fallen in love with. All that and Darmik is barley holding onto his sanity. But one thing that he does have above all else is his army. Commander and loyal leader to his solders, Darmik must find the rebels responsible for inciting the spark of rebellion in the hearts of his people. He must find the ones he secretly appreciates for saving Rema from her demise that fateful day of her failed execution. But most important, he must find the truth of Rema's true heritage, and if she knows who she really is, and how much power she holds, if she chooses to wield it...
But one things for certain, Darmik knows his people have been mistreated. He knows his father is turning him into a monster--making him do evil things to his kingdom. He knows when his brother Lennek becomes ruler of Greenwood Island, he will become even more vindictive and evil then his father, and he will make everyone under his rule pay, simply because he can. And Darmik knows he cannot let that happen, but is uncertain what he should do about it...
But finding Rema will come at the
ultimate price...
His father and brother want Rema's head on a stick, but even worse, the Emperor has gotten news of Rema's heritage, and has sent in his own reinforcements, and their hunting for the kill. He knows Rema betrayed him by not telling him who she really was, but is that betrayal really worth standing by and watching her be murdered? But the more he digs deeper, the more he starts to think that maybe she hasn't betrayed him, maybe she's unaware of who's blood pulses through her veins. And then the realization that he may of just lost everything he loves, for nothing.
So now the question remains...
Is Darmik willing to fight for Rema, and by fighting for her, is he willing to take on her cause--a cause that just may bring the end of the king's tyranny, and the kingdom to it's rightful place?
Yes, YES, YESSSSS!!!! The RED was a fantastic sequel that I just loved! With action and adventure, twist and turns, allegiances and betrayals, obedience and rebellion, evil and benevolent, and a romance so bitter sweet, that it will literally be the last hope of saving a kingdom...
Overall, RED was so awesome, with just the right amount of everything I love! This series has quickly become one of my all time favorites, and these characters will always hold a dear place in my heart! And the author is writing a spin-off series with Rema and Darmik's daughter, the future empress as the main protagonist. And I CAN'T WAIT to jump back into this EPIC world. If you enjoy this type of genre with an awesome cast of charters, and plenty of action and adventure, with betrayals and defiance, and a romance so sweet, then you should definitely check out this series!
NOTE: I received an eBook for reviewing purposes. All opinions express are my own and are not influenced in any way!

First! If you haven't read The Key (True Reign #1), believe me when I say YOU WANT TO! Go here and get it: The Key (The True Reign Series)
WHY?
#1 Jennifer Anne Davis is an fascinating author ~ she's ROCKIN
#2 The book is free on the store
Yes, this is a series, sequel, trilogy, etc. etc. etc. BUT it's the bewitching kind! The kind with a rip you apart ending and characters you would be willing to follow to the ends of the Solar System. (Infinity + Infinity)
In the first book, The Key, you fall in love or hate with the core characters. You can see my 5 out of 5 stars at hopetoread dot com. In ЯED you are given the heart and soul of the characters and those who believe in them or fight against them. The authors words and flow of the story bring you into the world of Rema. You become her friend, ally, and fight right alone side her. You will absolutely fall in love with this story and its author.
I was provided this book in return for an honest review. And honesty is all you get!

Jennifer Anne Davis is one of my new favorite authors. Her characters are realistic and the plots are interesting and unique. Her books are the ones that I read till late in the night and then need a couple days after I am done reading before I am ready for a new book.
I felt like I needed to review this book though to put out that I do not believe this should be labeled as a children's book. The romance and violence are a bit heavier than what I would consider appropriate for the genre of "children's". While some kids may be more mature and ready to handle higher-aged plots, I wouldn't just pick up this series and hand it to any child. I would consider this a Young Adult book. Should your child be interested in this book maybe read it first to decide if they are old enough to enjoy it (you will likely not regret having to read it yourself).

I want to preface this by saying that YA is not my go-to genre, BUT if more authors pieced together YA series the way Jennifer Anne Davis has pieced together the True Reign series, then YA would be my genre of choice all day every day.
This book was exciting, intense, sweet, and powerful. It was the perfect follow up to the cliff that The Key left us hanging from.
The beginning was slightly slow but as a reader I was thankful for the start because it picks up in a BIG way about half way through. I absolutely could NOT put this book down. We are talking staying up til 4:30 am reading know in very well that I had a 7 am wakeup call. I feel like the book would have been almost too intense if it didn't start out the way it did.
Rema did not disappoint. If anything, I fell in love with her sassy, strong, and resilient attitude even more. She is quite possibly my favorite female lead ever. I absolutely LOVE her and Darmik together.
One important note about this series is that it is really one really long book broken up into three parts. So what does that mean for book two? You betcha! A huge ass cliffhanger. This cliffhanger is all kinds of "OMG I NEED BOOK 3 NOW!!!!!!" It will have you cursing and praising a Jennifer Anne Davis at the same time.
This series is an absolute must read for all ages YA and above. I honestly think the story would appeal to all different kinds of people and ages.
And seriously, this series needs to be made into a movie!!!!!!!! The world needs some Darmik on the big screen!!
Note: I was provided an ARC in return for an honest review. And I honestly LOVED this book!!!!

So Red picks up exactly where The Key left off. Rema has been narrowly saved from execution by the rebels. Darmik realizes how he truly feels about Rema just before she hangs. Yet he can’t be sure how she feels about him. He doesn’t even know if she knows her true identity. And until he knows that, he can’t really proceed. During the execution attempt and rescue, Rema is injured and must spend a portion of the book recovering. Mako, the commander of her father’s army, saved Rema seventeen years ago, and he’s back to make sure she stays alive.
One of my biggest frustrations with Red was how long Rema is kept in the dark about who she is and what’s truly going on at the rebel fortress. However, I did like the manner in which she was finally told. She was provided with honest explanations by the two people she needed to hear it from most in a way that showed they were both open, honest, and loyal to her. But I was starting to get just as annoyed as she was with how frequently people dodged her questions.
Even though the romance is kicked up a bit in Red from The Key, Darmik and Rema were apart for a good portion of the book. Where typically that annoys me, in Red I actually enjoyed it because both people had much to do. A love triangle does begin to form in that another character begins to take interest in one of our main two, and I really wasn’t happy about this. This particular character I worry about the potential for making some really stupid and rash decisions in the future.
Honestly, I think I was enjoying Red even more than I enjoyed The Key. I read them both in just over 24 hours total—not too shabby. I definitely blew through these books because they’re just that good, and I was hooked very quickly. I will say that Red has a cliffhanger ending, but unfortunately, it wasn’t an ending that forced me to pick up War immediately. Of course, I still want to know what’s going to happen next, but the ending was one of those that left me with the impression that things are getting worse before they get better so I ought to be prepared for the long haul. Either way, Red ends up getting 4.5 Stars from me. Have you read Red? What did you think? Let me know!

Red by Jennifer Anne Davis picks up where The Key left off. First of all, Rema does not die, as the cliff-hanger ending of The Key may have led one to believe. Instead, Rema is whisked off to the rebels’ camp which is hidden high in the mountains. Once she has recovered from her illness, Mako, the rebel commander, insists upon her physical training but still does not reveal the secret to her—Rema is the rightful heir to the throne. Meanwhile, Prince Darmik, Lennek, and an Empiron Assassin scour the countryside looking for her in a deadly competition. But Darmik’s motivation to win the game might not be the same as the others’. Will he reach her in time?
I enjoyed Red. In fact, I enjoy just about every book I read. Red captured my attention and continued an intriguing story. The stakes are raised time and again, a possible love triangle is thrown in, and the romance deepens. I think I enjoyed the character development the most, despite the flaws.
I was disappointed that Rema did not discover on her own that she was Princess Amer but had to have someone tell her. Throughout her life, Rema has had clues as to her heritage or at least the fact that her aunt and uncle were hiding something from her. For example, her family always called her Rema, which is completely different than her given name. However, I was impressed with the way Rema handled learning it. Instead of being angry that her family lied to her, Rema accepted that they meant the best for her and moved on with life. She also accepted her place as princess rather quickly, instead of moping, and took charge, as a princess is supposed to.
Prince Darmik, also, took a while to decide to turn against his evil father. I suppose a lifetime’s worth of loyalty is not easy to turn one’s back on, but the way his father treated him, not to mention the rest of the kingdom, should have raised some red flags before Rema came along. However, I did enjoy seeing Darmik change from a merciless killer to someone with compassion as he fell ever more deeply in love with Rema.
One thing that did not make sense to me was the fact that Rema had not lived in the secret fortress from the time her parents died. It is quite possibly the safest place in the kingdom. Why would Mako not have Rema, possibly the most important person to the rebels, live in the safest place as well as the rebel base? The only reason I can think of is that Mako wanted her to see for herself the horrible way the king was treating the kingdom. Presumably, living with the citizens would show her their need for a better ruler.
I would warn the reader that there are several swear words, violence (they are trying to start a war, after all), and a bit of sensual romance. Neither the violence nor the sensuality is overly descriptive or long, but it is definitely present.
Overall, I think Red could have been written better, its flaws corrected, but I still enjoyed it and could not quite see what would happen next.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, Clean Teen Publishing, in exchange for an honest review.

This novel thoroughly irked me. Sure, it was enjoyable enough (though I can't tell exactly why) but there were so many problems I had with it.
In my personal opinion, Rema does not show the necessary skills to become queen. She is kind and beautiful, but has nothing else going for her. A main character should have the right mix of uniqueness to set them apart from the other characters while also making sure they're not overpowered and made to be wayyy better than everyone else. Rema is placed on a pedestal compared to all the other characters with no valuable traits to back it up. She should have earned the people's respect, but it was just handed to her.
The plot fairly dull and can be described as "everything revolves around Rema." Really, this series has been all about protecting Rema but it has given me no reason to want Rema to be protected. The pacing was all over the place randomly skipping weeks/days. There were also parts in the novel that just made me cringe that I had to put the book down.
We did get to see more of the side characters. But, I didn't really enjoy them that much. Savenek had the potential to be an interesting character, which he was, but that was quickly ruined. His personality did a complete flip for the worse because of sudden love for Rema. WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT SUDDEN HAREM?!
The love triangle was not necessary AT ALL. It added nothing but extra drama. All the romance in this book seemed to be handled poorly. Not only was there an unnecessary love triangle, but in the midst of a freaking WAR, characters decide to get all up close and personal with each other. WHAT. I THOUGHT WE WERE PAST THIS.
I have very mixed feelings about the ending of this book. I liked the last 10% but in the last 2% I was just really irritated.

Although I still think this series should have been a single book, and not broken up into three parts, I have to admit that book two was an improvement over book one. I'm still not a fan of Rema, or her tantrums that continue to put everyone else in danger, but at least there was a miniscule amount of depth to the characters this time around. Like book one, it ends on a cliffhanger, and also like book one, the predictable plot continues. Unless book three completely wows me, i will definitely not be purchasing any more titles by this author

Sentenced to die, rejected by the one she loved. The Key left us hanging, quite litterally, with Rema at her prescribed execution. Red picks up right where The Key left off, saving us, along with Rema, for another enticing adventure across Greenwood Island. Mysteries will be solved, identities revealed, and love explored as you delve even deeper into the beautiful world that Jennifer Davis has created.
If you enjoyed the first book, The Key, this second installment in the True Reign Series will not dissappoint. Packed with action, adventure, and an unveiling of many of the mysteries introduced in the first book. Just be prepared to be thrust back out on the literary cliff and left to dangle precariously while you await the final installment.

Яed is the 2nd book in the True Reign Series, it picks up right where The Key left off and dives deeper into the mystery of what the key holds for Rema. This is an amazing series full of twists, turns, lies, deception, love, and family. The characters are so well written that they come to life while you are reading. Jennifer Anne Davis is a wonderful author with amazing talent for weaving unforgettable stories and characters. Make sure you set aside time when you start this one because once you start you won't be able to put it down!

Shortly after starting this book, I decided the series is going on my very exclusive Shelf of Awesome. The first book had me biting my nails, pacing, making plans to subject certain characters *coughcoughLennekAndBarjoncoughcough* to unspeakable torments, and generally fangirling. The sequel did not disappoint and I will be at the head of the line for War this month.
The plot:
This series is very, very fast paced with less description and more action in the writing style. The plot is very “slender” with all unnecessary body fat (unimportant bits) trimmed off. In other words, if something happens, you’d best pay attention because it happened for a reason. There are a lot of places where things felt condensed and while that made for concise reading, I did wish for more description in certain places. But it wasn’t a big issue and it’s still clear what everyone looks like, how buildings are laid out, etc. This was a fast read despite its length and I think we can all appreciate a book that can be devoured in one sitting.
The characters:
I have liked Rema since book one and that certainly didn’t change here. Of course, I find her passion for equines particularly endearing and I love that the writer made her an independent, strong female without having her be kick@$$ or snarky. She has to sort through a lot of issues in this book and a lot of heavy revelations and I thought she took it rather well. Though, personally, I would have been a bit more miffed at Mako for lying to me. Make that a lot more miffed. Rema is far more reasonable than me.
As for Darmik—I adore him, okay? I’m a sucker for bad@$$ good boys. He too has to sort out buckets and buckets of choices, morality, and feelings in this book. Poor baby. It takes him a little while to figure out what he plans to do, but once he does he commits to his decisions like a true military man. His relationships with his father and brother are displayed further in all their dysfunctional complexity, but I liked seeing more of the friendship between him and Neco. There was a little of it in the first book, but a much more of it here. And of course, Neco and Ellie were adorable. Not as adorable as Rema and Darmik, but still adorable.
In the description of the rebel army, there was one thing I took issue with. It says that what the female fighters lacked in the men’s strength, they made up for with superior speed. That’s well and good, except for the fact that all the research I’ve done says swiftness is by far more important. What I mean is, their male fighters need to get up to speed. (Pun intended. Micro-rant over.)
The other character I’ll mention (because this is getting a bit long) is Savenek. At first, I was terrified that the author was going to put in a love triangle. I was all prepared to scream in outrage and stomp my feet, but Ms. Davis was merciful. I did not and do not like Savenek—misogynistic, arrogant, whiny, troublemaking little brat that he is—but he’s a good fighter and ultimately means well, so I’ll refrain from completely hating him for the moment.
In summation, I love this series and I am torn about reading the final book. On one hand, I must know what happens. On the other, I don’t want it to end. I certainly recommend it!

*****SPOILERS AHEAD TRED CAREFULLY*****
In comparison to the first novel, The Key, I found this book disappointing. Red begins in a way so similar to the first novel – Rema being held in a new place, her true identity still a mystery to her. At first glance, I was okay with the beginning of the book, but as the story continued, and the plot felt very similar to that of the first novel, I began to lose interest in the story.
Moreover, I felt like there were many unnecessary conflicts caused by one simple issue, perhaps my biggest bookish pet peeve – a lack of communication. I can see for logistical reasons why Davis waited so long to have Mako and Darmik to tell Rema of her true identity as queen Amer, as the book would be so much shorter if they had told her right away, which made the plot drag on. However, I felt as though Mako and Darmik’s waiting to tell Rema did nothing to benefit the plot or the characters. Yes, it did give Rema time to train, but she could have trained with that goal of become queen in mind. I just could not comprehend why they did not tell her the moment she was brought to the rebel camp.
In the first book, I liked Darmik’s character, but in this book I did not like where his storyline headed in that his one goal in this novel was to save and protect Rema. I would have liked to see his character develop more and become more complex, instead of merely being the protective love interest. In the first book, I loved how he had multiple goals – not only to save Rema, but also to learn to step away from his father and brother and stand for what is right – but I felt like after he had that revelation, he did no other character development which was quite frustrating from a reader’s perspective.
One of my other issues with this book was the love triangle. I was not expecting Savenek to become a love interest when he and Rema first met, and I was disappointed when their relationship quickly spiraled into one. I could not see how it benefited the plot other than making situations and relationships more awkward between Rema and other characters.
Despite these issues, I did enjoy how Rema began to train and become a stronger person. My favorite scene was when she beat Savenek at the horse race.

I love this... this is from the description of Red
Kingdoms rise and fall
Heroes are born and made
But one thing remains the same - love conquers all
If anyone could have ended a story with an abrupt cliffhanger it would be Jennifer Anne Davis! The Key is currently free on the store. It is a must read before Red!
In Red, Rema comes back. She is recused from Prince Lennek and his evil plans. Mako makes the appearance as her rescuer.
In the first few chapters we get a glimpse of who Rema really is. Prince Darmik has an idea but it is not confirmed for a few more chapters.
In Red, Rema is realizing that there are many people that are working hard to bring down the reign of King Barjon and Prince Lennek. As soon as she is healed, she ask Mako to train her to be able to join the fight. She doesn't realize how close she is to this plot of the overthrow.
The love story that was started in the Key is continuing in Red. Rema and Darmik are that couple that the reader hopes makes it, despite all the odds against them. There is another addition to the love story.
Red is just an amazing part of three book series. The Key had the cliffhanger that had me begging for book two, and Red is having me stalk the author page for book three. There is love and intrigues and plots throughout the whole book. There is nothing slow about this book. And true to the author's style there is another cliffhanger!! I so did not see it coming. (I personally love cliffhangers. I feel that it gives the story a twist and it makes me really excited for the next book)
Author Jennifer Anne Davis is an amazing author! I really wish I could give this book more then a 5 star review. This is one story that you will enjoy. Its not the typical princess story!
*I recieved a copy from the author for an honest review. This review is completely honest on how I felt about the story*

In the every changing world of young adult literature, it is truly refreshing to read a book that is meant for the YA audience in content being clean, appropriate and highly entertaining, yet it is a fantastic read for adults as well. So often I read a so called YA book and I exclude it from my own children's shelf (ages 17, 15 and 12), but with The Key and Red, there was no need for censorship. Jennifer Anne Davis creates a chivalrous world of intrigue, deception and a rebellious uprising surrounding a tumultuous monarchy ensconced on an island. If that wasn't enough, the mountainous rebel "complex" is the kind of literary landscape I wish were real so I could put it on my travel intinerary.
The story of Rema and Darmick continues right where The Key left off; in other words, my heart was pounding out of my chest with the conclusion to the dramatic cliff hanger I've been waiting for. I love the relationship between Rema and Darmick, but I also liked the complexity of Savenick and I think he adds a lot to the story, certainly he adds some excitement. I must say, the drama didn't end with the opening scene, but continues with a page turning thrill ride until the conclusion...another cliffhanger? Yes! I, for one, love them and Davis is a master at leaving the reader grinning with satisfaction one second and gasping in shock the next. A pretty perfection combination, I think, which is why I'll be first in line to buy book three AND I'll be recommending this series to all of my friends, young and old alike.

Red is the amazing sequel to Jennifer Anne Davis’s “The Key.” I was given a copy of the e-book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. When I was given Red, I was told that I would immediately want to read the third book in the trilogy. That was no lie. I finished Red late last night and sat up in my bed and was like, “I need MORE!!!!” I can’t wait to start reading War today. I told myself I had to write this review before I could begin War.
Red picks up exactly where The Key left off – Rema’s execution. Without spoiling too much, just as Rema is set to die, a valiant rescue effort comes into play, leaving Rema alive, but wounded. She wakes up in a strange area surrounded by rebels. She has to learn to survive with the rebels while trying to figure out what everyone is hiding from her and why Darmik betrayed her.
Meanwhile, Darmik struggles with wondering if he was a complete butthead in the way he treated Rema. He finally realizes that maybe he didn’t have the whole story and maybe he is not fighting for the correct side.
Red is a dramatic sequel to The Key. It is full of growth for the characters and I think I fell more in love with Darmik, who by the way, in my mind looks exactly like Bash from the CW show “Reign.” I’m not sure if that’s what he looks like through the author’s mind, but I’m sticking to that yummy mental image.
I loved how well-written this story is. There are few mistakes and it is full of beautiful description and prose. Every word kept me intrigued. I highly recommend this series. I cannot wait to leave you here and delve back into the royal world. I have to know what happens to Rema and whether Darmik stays on the “good” side.

I have been waiting for this one for what feels like ever but really it was only a few weeks. Jennifer Anne Davis did not disappoint me one bit. I was obsessed with The Key and now I am obsessed with Red. I love this story and quite honestly need Book #3 like yesterday.
Red picks up right where we were left off in The Key, at Rema’s execution. I was still holding my breath as the floor gives way. But the rebels save the day since Darmik still isn’t thinking the way I need him to be. Rema is brought to Rebel camp where we meet Mako again. Some wonderful new characters were brought into the story and they really added so much to the over all feel of the story.
In Red, we watch Rema grow as a woman and as a potential leader. We also see the changes in Darmik and how he feels about his place in his family and his kingdom. I also realized that I have a crush on Neco, Darmik’s best friend. I love Darmik, don’t get me wrong but the trusted best friend makes me feel like Darmik and Rema will be okay whenever he comes into a scene.
I don’t want to spoil this amazing book for anyone but seriously pick up this series. If you are tired of the same plot lines and stories, this is the book for you. It really set the bar high for me. I want new, different and amazing. All three things this book and series has.

What to say about a book that tugs at your heartstrings? This book heck this whole series has given me the worst book hangover since i read Twilight. I know your saying ack Twilight, but I am serious the characters are so alive that when one dies i gasp in pain like my heart been stomped in a million pieces. I want to take the sword and run it through the evil characters and say there you go how you like it. Jennifer has woven a awesome piece of fictional work that does not disappoint and keeps you wanting more tell the very last page. Well done Jennifer. Now book three please :)

*This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review*
Actually I have had this for a little while but I refused to read it until I had access to the final book because after what happened at the end of book 1 I didn't want to deal with another cliffhanger like that. Having now got an arc in my grubby little hands I sat down and devoured RED in one sitting knowing that as soon as this review is written I can satisfy my impatience and see what happens.
You guessed it .... There WAS another cliffhanger. I will confess it wasn't as heart droppingly shocking as at the end of book one, which definitely had the cliffhanger yet to be beaten, but it is definitely another "SERIOUSLY Jennifer??" moment.
Red is as well written as The Key and is definitely a page turner. Written from two different viewpoints the story really develops at a fantastic pace right up to the moment that you get the evil "end of book 2". When a book is as well written as The Key I sometimes worry that the sequel will disappoint. This one certainly doesn't.
Right time to get to WAR!

I immediately devoured this book after reading The Key because, well... cliffhanger!! And this one did not disappoint! The plot has thickened and Rema and Darmik just can't seem to catch a break! I loved the new characters introduced in this book and I think my favorite part in the series so far was watching Rema really start to come into her own at the compound. I love when female leads are strong and can kick some ass, so when Rema started her training I was definitely giddy, lol. Once again I really enjoyed the gradual growth Darmik and Rema go through. They are both still struggling with their feelings for each other and a new guy may be throwing a wrench in the works... The only thing I didn't like about this one was Savenek's character development. I couldn't quite believe how quickly his feelings developed and I really wished we could have seen more of his progression because I liked his character a lot. So I'm taking off half a star for that, but it was still awesome and I cannot wait to read the next one! Because, once again, there was an epic cliffhanger!!
4.5 stars!

A girl who knows her mind, is on the naive side and been kept in the dark about who she is. A Prince whose sire stole the throne, is disparaged by his own family, and falls for the beautiful girl. What can possibly go wrong when you throw in a rebel army, an execution order, and a rival.

The intricate details of the machinations behind the rebellion have me totally involved. The characters come alive and as I learn more of the past and what is at stake for the future, I find myself trying to help plot the downfall of the evil king. When not reading the book I found myself thinking about what had happened and what would happen. The brutality and violence reminds me of the middle ages in our world and the total dedication of some soldiers brings to mind the Knights Templar. Jennifer Anne Davis has created a Classic Story that will be read and reread by many through the coming years. I can't wait to read the next book!!

Continuing from The Key, Red kicks it up a notch. Rema's story is a little slower and not as action packed but she still grows as a character. We left off where Rema is about to be hanged in front of everyone but alas she gets saved at the last moment. Rema is then transported to the rebels camp where she makes a starling discovery (which I won't spoil but you probably already know). She is confused and not sure she wants to take on the responsibility but with her friends around her she knows she can't keep running away. Darmik is on the search for Rema though secretly and he only trusts his best friend, Neco. He still has some internal conflict with his loyalty to his king or to the true heir but he picks the right one. Darmiks story is more action packed as he is the commander of an army but the book still keeps the fast pace it had in the first one and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Fabulous read. Just as well written, exciting and hard to put down as Key. Davis is exceptional with her attention to detail once again. Her character development is on point, the characters aren't stagnant or boring. It's exciting reading about Rema coming into her own despite her obstacles (and there are MANY). Every time you think things are starting to go right Davis sends you for another loop. I couldn't wait to pick up the next book and read these last 2 (Red and War) both in the same day.

Savenak's character is ridiculous. He changes emotions more often than a premenstrual preteen. One minute he's all, "I love you!" And the next, "You're a spoilt brat...stupid female.." it's not only odd but annoying. His whole character is confusing. Although to be fair Rema and Darmik make some dumb choices too.

As with the first, I really hoped it would be great. It had the potential, but the spark just wasn't there. The writing is underwhelming in many ways, including the flat characters. Plus, it feels as if the author tries to insert every trope associated with YA novels and it just doesn't work well. All in all, it was a below average book and I disliked nearly every minute of reading it, but I had to finish it just in case it got better. It didn't.

This is a continuation in the True Reign Series following Rema as she figures out her destiny. Be ready to read this in one setting, because the suspense and twists will have you on the edge of your seat! At times you won't know who to trust!

RED (TRUE REIGN SERIES #2) by JENNIFER ANNE DAVIS
Red or the second book in the True Reign Series picks up right as the first one leaves off. This continues with the story of Rema and will continue to grab the attention from the first page to the last.
This book was hard to have attention pulled away from as it was enjoyable and entertaining. Easily a 5/5 star.

I loved The Key, but was literally left hanging at the end. Red totally lived up to the first book, even surpassing it! Ms. Davis is a master story teller. This book has action, intrigue, danger, foreshadowing of threats to come, tied together with just enough romance to leave me smiling. I am completely in love with this story!!! This author is one to watch. Look out New York Times, Jennifer Anne Davis is headed your way!

Red continues the adventure where The Key left off. I couldn't put this story down. War is looming and sides are being drawn. Heroes and villains alike are plotting and aligning. I love Darmik and Rema, but I also love Vesha, Neco, Ellie, and well, so many of the characters in this story. The imagery and detail Jennifer paints into the scenes is beautiful. Yet another fabulous book. I'll be waiting for the next one!

While i really loved this second book! I felt some things could have happened sooner and that a love interest would just not have been introduced because while i love him i dont like how that played out. But i really loved it!

Again...wow! Many times the second book in a series can be more of a "filler" book with just tons of information more than anything. Not so here! This book had a ton of action and some good plot twists. I'm enjoying seeing Rema and Darmik on their journey and couldn't put this down!

I couldn't put the book down. I just had to know what was going to happen next. It is a little frustrating having the characters stay in the dark when the reader knows so much, and the cliff hanger at the end is a killer. But it is a great read and I can't wait for the third book!!!

So I read book 1 in three days. Then read Red in two days, and now I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with my spare time until book three comes out. So PLEASE HURRY CAUSE I WANT THE CONCLUSION! :-D I can't wait to figure out what happens next and how Darmik rescues her from the Emperion. There's just so much going on and it's very easy to read.

The premise of the story is still a beautiful tell, however, the “love triangle” needs to go. I think that concept is over done. And I really didn’t enjoy reading it in this story either. It just didn’t fit for me. Just my opinion. But I am glad that book 3 “Red” will have something more to look forward to.

So I read the first one and was happy to see it listed as clean reads for teen! But then was surprised in this one as it had some parts that were not appropriate for a teen read. I was hoping for a good series to pass on to my daughter... and was glad that I read it first because now it won't be passed on but deleted!!

Super good followup to The Key. This series has awesome characters and intense action that never stops as a kingdom is on the verge of chaos when the true heir is found and rebels pledge to kill the current cruel monarch and crown prince. Rema is taken to the rebel hideout where she still doesn’t know who she truly is, but is being trained by the rebels. Prince Darmik is determined to find her, but when an assassin from Emperion arrives to find and kill Rema, he must trick his own brother and the man known only as Captain to try to find Rema first to keep her safe. I loved this…only it ended on a cliffhanger like the last book, which leaves my fingers cramped as I hold onto my britches waiting to read the next one. Yikes!

I would normally give this a 5 star rating, but it is so irksome to get cut off at the end like this AGAIN. I really liked the book anyhow and am ready to start book 3 of this series. Since I already read 3 of the books about the daughter before I came across this set, I am hooked. I think if it wasn't for K.U., I would have given up and read something else. Thanks author and K.U. because I would have missed out and couldn't recommend this author.
