Daisy Miller (Penguin Classics)

Review:"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." -- Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV)

Daisy Miller is the essence of a well-written novella: deep characterizations developed through a variety of interactions, minimal prose to capture a point, carefully balanced action that rounds out a message, plenty of exhibition of internal thoughts and feelings, and stark contrasts in personal philosophies. Fire (A Companion to Graceling)

Review:I'm glad I waited a bit before I decided to write this review because, otherwise, I would have ranked this a lot lower than I did.

First, I knew that she was going to focus on something a little less Graceling but I wasn't expecting it to be this different. I was taken aback by how little she touches on the Gracelings in this book. In fact, that was the reason why I was so determined to give this book a lower score because of my belief that all books in a series should be in the same worl... Read more

Book 1) - Book 1 of the Ascendance Trilogy - The False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy

Review:3.5 Stars, but rounding down because the story wound down the further it went.

It's the story of an orphan boy who gets selected to replace the missing heir of a kingdom's royal family. The scope of the story covers the boys training and competition with two other boys, also selected as possible princes.

The writing was excellent. I really liked Sage, he had a very engaging voice. The secondary characters were also interesting and well developed.

I thought the author did ... Read more

Review:I loved this book beyond measure. I fell in love with the characters, the plot and the kingdom. If you love fantasy, you will love this book! The heroine is strong and smart and just amazing. I wanted to jump inside this book in fight alongside the queens guard. The best book I've read in a very long time. Read more

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

Review:I wanted to review this book just after I finished it, but I could not. The Wind Up Bird Chronicle is just too much, and I mean that in the best way. Still, I really want to try and capture my feelings for this text (now six weeks past).

Murakami's story is actually dead simple: the main character's (Toru Okada) wife (Kumiko) leaves him and he spends the remainder of the book trying to get her back. At its core, this is just a love story. But this simple narrative is really a vehicle to d... Read more

Read more

Review:For my 7 year old grandson for Christmas. He is in 2nd grade and really enjoying the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, so I thought I would see if he likes another author. Our children read all the Judy Blume books when they were growing up, I just don't remember this one. Read more

Around the World in Eighty Days (Bantam Classics)

Review:I am giving this 2 star only because if you seen a movie (with (Jackie Chan) you will not like the book, it lacks humor that movie promised and you can't help by keep comparing the two. I know its a classic and I know it is a well writen book but for those who now want to read the book post movie be warned you will be disapointed... Read more

Silence: A Novel (Picador Classics)

Review:I love this book. I read it in college, and lost my copy of it. I think it was written back when the idea of foreign missionaries becoming part of the culture they are involved in was really rare. There are a LOT of layers to this book. You should check it out. Read more

Review:Really enjoyed this book, makes you think about what is happening in this day and age. Scary that people can be taken in with promises of better time ahead. It shows what can happen when we, as the people, take a stand for our believe, knowing right from wrong. Read more
