Review:If you really want history re-written, and don't mind that King David is made out to be a bi-sexual, then by all means, buy this book. Otherwise, you will be like me, deeply offended at this assumption and betrayal. I get that this is a fictional re-telling, but to take this kind of liberty is ridiculous and rather appalling. Review:I've always been a fan of psychological books, and this one has got to be one of my all time favorite YA books that fall under that category. There's just something about unreliable narrators that I really love.
Alex and Miles and everyone else were such likeable characters, and she definitely grew and changed as the story progressed.
What I really love about this book is how it intertwines external and internal factors, rather than focusing on just one. But it was done in a way wh... Read more
Review:Dear Reader: The is a review of My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga. It was certainly an interesting read but I feel like I needed more information than the book was giving. It's a very dark plot; a story about a girl who sees no light left in the world and decides that she is going to take the quicker way out. She will kill herself to rid the world of the daughter of a murderer. Via the internet and a website, she finds a boy who wants nothing more than to do the same. He is mournin... Read more
Review:Such a beautiful story. You will not regret picking up this book. There's so many laughs and tears. For me, this story was a small part of my past in two ways. It's just so beautiful and reminds you that life is good even if at times it might not seem like it and that we need to be aware of others who might be suffering, lend a hand or ear to listen, do something rather than later regretting you didn't. You can make a difference. Read more
Review:Pretty good book. Ultimately, a little short. If you buy this because you already have an affinity for food & Europe, you'll be frustrated with the protagonist for just being so dull to these wonderful things. You've never had gelato? So, you just don't walk down the ice cream isle at Cub? Read more
Review:Although a bit slow at the beginning, The Law of Tall Girls definitely pays off at the end. Perfect for fans of Kasie West or Sarah Dessen, this books follows Peyton, a very tall girl (over 6') who has spent most of her life hiding. She keeps secrets from her dad, her classmates, etc. She's self-conscious, embarrassed, and worried. She's dated guys of all heights, but is really sick of looking down at her dates, she wants to be swept off her feet (literally) and adored in a way she assumes i... Read more
Review:This book takes on an interesting point of view, but its sole quality is the descriptive power of the author. This alone will should not create a classic. Naked Lunch is read and applauded simply because of its unconventional approach, and not for its content. It has been considered controversial ever since the first printing, and is still admired solely for that reason. If you needed to read the entire book through to get his simple message, then you probably never got it, anyway. If this b... Read more
Review:I enjoyed this edition of Junky, the introduction by Oliver Harris was very thorough, and perfect to offer the reader the basics of Burroughs' life and prepare them for the world of an addict. The stories showcase many big players: everything from heroin and cocaine, to weed and alcohol, to bennies, goofballs, peyote, and yagé.
Through simple, unemotional accounts of experiences with the various drugs, the author is able to pull the reader into his world and emphasize the overpowering nat... Read more
Review:Another book with someone who doesn't have access to their gift. The way you tell us the same info two or three times in the same chapter is annoying. Weak villains. Felt like more filler than story. Do yourself a favor and stop at book two. Stone of tears. That's as good as he gets. Read more
Review:"When Daniel kissed her, Luce knew in her bones that he was her past. Folded into his embrace, she was desperate for him to remain her present. But the second their lips parted, she couldn't really be sure he was her future."
I am still torn on this series. I do love that in this book it seems to become, for the character anyway, about what is real to her. She is starting to rely less on the feelings of those around her and examining what she can trust about herself. By the end, I real... Read more
