First the bad.
There were a crap ton of typos. Missing words, extra words, that kind of thing. For example, too many "the"s, or missing "to"s. It drove me crazy. Other than that, I loved this book.
Then the good.
Stark is what I wished Dresden would be. Of course I had to make some comparisons, because I have been reading the Dresden Files series for a while now. There are similarities but not as many as you would first think. I always... Read more
Review:Outstanding start to what looks to be a good series. Not much I can add to what most other reviews have said, except the following:
I like the low level of magic exhibited by Daniel, the main protagonist. Often, in urban fantasy storys, the magic becomes almost a Deus Ex Machina (Jim Butcher, I'm talking to you! Although I love the Dresden Files, the magic is getting out of hand!) Not so here. Although the world is definitely magical, with demons, succubi, dark rituals, etc... the pro... Read more
Review:There is a point in every series where one novel becomes the first epitome of the series. While the previous Sandman Slim novels were fun, Kill City Blues stands starkly, surprisingly rich in the voice of the protagonist. Read more
Review:Don't get me wrong. Everything I like about the character is here, but the storyline left me unimpressed. We left Stark at the end of the last novel with his whole life torn apart. It's a great way to explore new territory with a character everyone already loves. But in the last few chapters, Kadrey takes it all back and puts Stark's life back almost exactly where we found him at the beginning of the last book - home and girlfriend restored, pesky responsibilities shed, and so on. Review:This is just plain and true good writing, come down to LA and see if I'm wrong. Honest writing and true in your face action. A true testament to the fun and horrors of the City of Angeles. Hell is just LA with better head shots Read more
Review:Kadrey has completely recovered from the last Sandman Slim novel, which suffered a degree of ennui. This new addition to the series is at turns, funny, exciting and as world weary as we have come to expect. I great read. Read more
Review:A treat for Sandman Slim fans. I'm ready for the next book. I never get tired of reading about him. This book is full of sarcasm, smart-ass remarks, wisecracks, mayhem, twists, turns, blood and guts, death, treachery, poison, corn mazes, angels and bad guys. See, great reading. Seriously, it's a lot of fun and Sandman is just so tough and bad, you have to love him. Candy does her Jade thing and and a lot of bad guys bite the dust. Still, it's never really over. Cliff hanger ending. I ha... Read more

Review:'The Burning World' is fantastic. For those who enjoyed 'Warm Bodies' (either the novel or the movie, although if you haven't read the book I HIGHLY suggest you do so), 'The Burning World' is an exciting and intriguing return to the world that Isaac Marion expertly crafted.
While hope is a constant thread throughout the novel, it does get pretty dark. The story explores the dark side of humanity and explores the consequences of trying to ignore the past and leave it behind.
