Flying Changes: A Novel (Riding Lessons)
Flying Changes: A Novel (Riding Lessons)

Review:A sequel, this was an equally good book, a very fast and easy read. Good character development, well-written, entertaining, and very interesting immersion in the world of horses and equine performance events. Read more

Review:I just picked it up yesterday at the Amazon Bookstore as a total fluke. The moment I picked it up I could not even imagine putting it down. It deals with identity in a way I’ve never seen so perfectly done. As a queer teen this book really speaks to me. 100/10

(Also the artwork is amazing!) Read more

Review:I saw the Alfred Hitchcock movie just prior to buying the book. The movie is outstanding, but the book is even better!! Even though it was written in 1950, it translate well into today. Definitely worth reading. Read more

Ripley's Game (Everyman's Library) - The Talented Mr. Ripley

Review:This is the third book in the Ripley series and Hightower delivers again. Our book club has decided to read this series as part of our bucket/book list. We have read two of the books in a row. We originally were going to read a book a year from the series but were so excited by the last one that we read this one the next month. Will see if we really wait a year. I have the movie now too but havent watched it yet. Read more

The Price of Salt
The Price of Salt

Review:Readers familiar with Highsmith's writing may know her best for the Ripliad, a series of five novels about her character, Tom Ripley. Her writing is just as riveting, if not more so, in this unprecedented novel about two women in love. Don't expect the standard, usually tragic lesbian-love-story ending from this novel. Instead, prepare to be enraptured, moved, heartened, and maybe even swept off your feet by the relationship that forms between a lonely, introverted New York department store empl... Read more

The Talented Mr. Ripley
The Talented Mr. Ripley

Review:I realize the point of Patricia Highsmith's Ripley novels is to make us dislike the character of Thomas Ripley. He is amoral, sociopathic, and quite possibly a psychopath. He has also never quite grown up. And I do dislike Ripley - INTENSELY.
But "The Talented Mr Ripley" deals with all its other major characters (with the exception of Dickie Greenleaf's father) in much the same way. They all appear to have a severe case of arrested development, and have never grown up emotionally an... Read more

A Gathering of Shadows: A Novel (Shades of Magic)

Review:OH. MY. GOSH. I AM IN DEEP. I was going to write a proper review for this book, but I was just sitting there going, but I'm not sure I could even properly deal with forming sentences - especially coherent ones.

To tell the truth, I knew this book was going to be good and I knew I would enjoy and I actually was enjoying it when I read it, but the beginning part was, well, slow going. You're kind of just sitting there going, oh, this is interesting but I could really just sit this down and ... Read more

Nevernight: Book One of the Nevernight Chronicle
Nevernight: Book One of the Nevernight Chronicle

Review:As a first time reader of Jay Kristoff, I had no idea what I was going into. The synopsis was intriguing, and the cover was stunning, so I was definitely pumped to start this novel. I love school-like tropes and assassin main characters, so this concept grabbed me and didn’t let go until the last page. I don’t want to talk too much about the plot (because you should go read it!!!!) but I guarantee that it’s amazing (SO MANY PLOT TWISTS).

Mia was a fantastic main character; she was vengefu... Read more

A Conjuring of Light: A Novel (Shades of Magic)
A Conjuring of Light: A Novel (Shades of Magic)

Review:The whole trilogy was addictive and sucked me into the worlds of the multiple Londons. While the concepts the author thought up around "magic" are disappointingly unrealistic (because there is real magic, of course), she does make it work in the context of the narrative. The characters are loveable and none of them are one-dimensional. I would enjoy hearing about how the Black London went dark - I bet that would be an interesting prequel. Read more
