Review:I have to admit, I found this book a slow go when I had to read it as a Freshman in prep-school. But the fact that it was set in New England and that it dealt with a depressing winter landscape and a remorseless cast of characters, such as I was then encountering made it unbelievably relevant at the time. I can relate, however, to the preponderance of young readers at this site who have expressed their displeasure at having to read it. I would not wish this vision on a young audience unles... Review:I was pleasantly surprised how many times I laughed out loud during the first half of this novel! There is some fine black comedy. At first. During the second half of the novel things are not so funny, in fact quite bleak. What seemed coldly humourous in Undine Spragg at first, slowly and steadily reveals the disturbed mind of the narcissistic sociopath, a full blown clinical case. Undine is downright frightening, and makes for a chilly, yet strangely delicious read. Once again, Warton's ... Read more

Review:While radical for its time, this novel now seems somewhat superficial and dated. The main characters are more two-rather than three-dimensional. The international theme, the conflict between American and European values, is not well developed. Compared to a Henry James novel, such as The Ambassadors,
that deals with the international theme, The Age of Innocence, functions on a lesser level. Read more
Review:I wasn't that impressed with the story. It was a little boring and hard to follow in places because of the purple prose: girl doesn't want to marry anyone, attains a gambling debt, refuses to marry to pay off that debt, and winds up in poverty because of her stubbornness. She takes a little more medicine than she should have and then goes to sleep forever. That about sums it up. It's just a story about a stuck-up woman who wants to live individually and not have to depend on a man and his money ... Read more

Review:Charity Royall is a girl from a small town who spends her days face down in the grass dreaming. Enter Lucius Harney, artistic, city guy who for a few months sweeps Charity off of her feet, rescuing her from small town life in North Dormer. Charity turns out to be little more than a side dish for Harney who goes on to marry Ms Balch; Charity is left depressed, pregnant and forced to marry the middle-age man who raised her, to save her name. I love all things Wharton so I may be a bit bias... Read more
Review:I really enjoyed reading this installment of the Monster Hunter series. It was nice to get to understand the background of Agent Franks and as usual Larry Correia did a great job detailing everything. Read more
Review:All the stories in this anthology were excellent! The only problem with them was that they were short stories. Many of them fit perfectly into the scenario laid down in John Ringo's books, and would be great reads expanded into full length novels! Read more
Review:If you've made it to book 4, and you haven't just jumped into it with both feet, I just have one question for you ... WTH is wrong with you??? Larry has raised the bar even higher than he set it with Alpha. I can't wait to dive into five. Read more
