Thorn in My Heart (Lowlands of Scotland Series #1)
Thorn in My Heart (Lowlands of Scotland Series #1)

Review:I have enjoyed Liz Higgs's previous novels, and this one was a most engaging read, especially after I caught on to the Jacob-Leah-Rachel connection. The Scots dialect made for some difficult going at times, but the characterizations partook fully of the cultural flavor - stern, upright, demanding, principled - and echoed well their Old Testament analogues.
I especially enjoyed the problems that loomed as the end of the story approached; after all, Jamie cannot marry both sisters - he's Presby... Read more

and Thorn - The Stone of Farewell - Book Two of Memory

Review:I have very little to say about Tad Willaims other than he has an astounding imagination and is always a joy to read. This is the second book in the trilogy. I almost gave up after 100 pages or so of the first book. After I stuck with it I realized that the reasons for me not enjoting the first part of this book are the same reasons I loved the rest of the trilogy. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fanatsy. Read more

An Experiment in Literary Investigation (P.S.) - The Gulag Archipelago Abridged
An Experiment in Literary Investigation (P.S.) - The Gulag Archipelago Abridged

Review:I am stunned, just stunned. This is my first Russian novel and Solzhenitsyn's prose and sarcasm translates so well. At first, the repetitive details seemed odd, but then it hit me, this was the only way to tell this story. This story is about people with real names and real events and Solzhenitsyn gave them a face and told their story, and did so in a manner that the Russians knew was true and could not refute. The Distant Hours
The Distant Hours

Review:I loved it overall, but at times it felt like swimming in mud. A real struggle to get through. But in the end it was worth it. I love the author's descriptions and choice of words. Not my favorite Kate Morton book but a story that lingers with you long after the last page. Read more

The Shadow Sister: Book Three (The Seven Sisters)
The Shadow Sister: Book Three (The Seven Sisters)

Review:Sometimes we need to look in the past in order to move forward. The Shadow Sister was a captivating story about a young woman on a journey of self discovery.

I honestly had no idea what to expect with this book. Being my first by this author and the third in a series, I was a little worried I might get lost. Much to my surprise The Shadow Sister read very well as a standalone. All I want now are the first two books!

Written in present and past the Riley did a fantastic job of b... Read more

Review:The majority of this book was so compelling. I wanted to read and read and read. Then, the ending chapters seemed so thrown together. I actually just skimmed through the last hoping it would revert back to the great book it was for most of the chapters. Read more

The Light We Lost
The Light We Lost

Review:A friend suggested this book because we have the same taste. So glad she did! The story grabs you from the beginning and you just have to see how it will end. The book has a different format than I am used to and at times I found it annoying. Still by the end I found I enjoyed the uniqueness. I also kept thinking about the one that got away... Read more
