Review:I recently read two books on the topic of learning: How We Learn by Benedict Carey (published in 2014) and Learn Better, by Ulrich Boser (published in 2017). Both books focus on techniques that have been shown through scientific experiments to improve a person’s ability to learn or remember new things. This is essentially a review and comparison of both books.
Both are good, and well-written. There is some overlap between them, and interestingly, they disagree with one another on a few... Read more
Review:I bought this book when my baby was born, excited to give her a great start in physical and mental development. I was greatly dissapointed, however. I have since done a lot of research about baby development, and learned about the Feldenkrais Method. I read Anat Baniel's book Kids Beyond Limits: The Anat Baniel Method for Awakening the Brain and Transforming the Life of Your Child With Special Needs and ca... Read more
Review:I have nearly finished Shapiro's book and the most striking thing about it is the ease with which he shows American university professors to be fools, by using their own words. I teach at a public university in Canada, where all universities are public universities, and most university faculty have socialist tendancies, so I have some sense of the difficulties that conservative thinkers face in the academic community. While Shapiro may have put forward some of the most blantant examples of pr... Read more

If we were all half as good as we could be toward each other... a must read for all schools, but how many will be brave enough to highlight their short comings.. and ours.. Read more
Review:A much needed look at the value of generalized education vs. STEM subjects. Fared makes a strong case for the general education to meet the changing needs of societies and individuals as time goes forward. STEM education is a great choice for students who are interested in these subjects, and certainly provides more immediately marketable skills, if that is the goal. These are vital in our technical world. However, many individuals are not interested in a technical subject, A broad education p... Read more
Review:Review of `Savage Inequalities: Children in America's Schools' by Jonathan Kozol published by HarperCollins of New York in 1992.
Reviewer Dr W. P. Palmer
I am reviewing this book more than ten years since I read it, as it was formative in my thinking and teaching about the education system in the United States of America. Anyone who has taught for a time in any nation on earth knows of the huge inequalities throughout education systems. Over the past fifty years, I have taught in s... Read more
Review:Anyone who does any kind of teaching should read this. It of course helps with my work with young people from poor families (both rural and urban), but I have learned tricks that even work with my medical students and medicine residents.
Great educator, who knows how to write. Read more
Review:We use this series in our charter school. The students love it so much that many of them have asked their parents to purchase them a personal copy to keep at home so they can read beyond what class time allowed. Read more
