Review:Tesla led a difficult life to make ours less difficult. Tesla brought us alternating current, neon lights, hydroelectric energy, radar, remote control, wireless communication and the modern electric motor. Another great hourly history. Read more
Review:I have read and enjoyed many of Mr. McCullough's books, and this one is no exception. The speeches all encourage the understanding of history, but each is unique and I learned a great deal. It was also a quick read - the individual speeches are just the right length for the bits of "free reading" time I have every day. I recommended this book to several friends, all of whom enjoyed it as much as I did. Read more
Review:The subject of history and its interpretation has become the topic of widespread debate due to its dual nature: Real people and events and their interpretation. The latter is the real controversy in history. Columbus is not admired (or hated) due to who he was or even what he did but over the consequences of his actions - discovery of a New World or destroyer of an old one. History has always been affected by politics and prejudice but ideology has become paramount lately. Perhaps the most i... Read more
Review:Fascinating look at Anglo children taken by native Americans in the 1850's to 1870's and the ending of tribal control of the plains. Shows the ignoble racial hatred evinced by Sherman and others that led to the natives demise. Read more
Review:Graham Hancock is a smart and engaging fellow; many of his lectures can be seen on Youtube, and he always manages to pique my interest. Review:I found this book through a mention in the Economist. I find it very interesting. It is taking a wholistic approach to looking at history and where the "ruling" power happens to be. I recommend it to others. Read more
Review:An overall enjoyable book that presents a selective view of American history. As all authors he picks and chooses his source material and provides a meaningful exercise in detecting liberal bias however subtle. A lood read but caveat emptor if you are looking for an unbiased work. Read more
Review:'A fascinating look at the follies of mankind regarding conflict and wars. As I read the book I regretted that Ms. Tuchman was not around to observe the ultimate folly of Iraq and Afghanistan. Following the tragedy of 911 when the powers that be decided that the country needed to go to war in Iraq despite the fact that the real culprits of the attack were located in Afghanistan. This seemed to me to be ultimate folly.
At forest I had a hard time figuring out why Ms. Tuchman chose the th... Read more

Review:This book is an interesting read covering a large amount of historical societies. Unfortunately, the two societies covered the most extensively were to me the least interesting. Still worth reading in hopes of learning from past mistakes. Read more
