The Search for a Christian Spirituality - The Holy Longing

Review:This book is just stuffed with interesting thoughts and perspectives that are wonderful to consider and discuss. Not everyone will agree with all of them, but the ideas are well-presented and argued. Very enjoyable read. Read more

Their Meaning in the Christian Life - The Knowledge of the Holy
Their Meaning in the Christian Life - The Knowledge of the Holy

Review:How often we worry about making ourselves all that God would have us to be. Truth is, If God doesn't make us holy, we can't get there from here. A.W. Tozer is one of the greats and It is my belief that we should spend more time in the older books, many of the newer ones are nowhere near as challenging. This is not a feel good book, it is a get better read. Read more

Knowing God
Knowing God

Review:One reviewer put this book in his top 50 favorite. I would have to say that it is in my top 5. In God's gracious providence, I first read this book just after becoming a Christian 30 years ago. It both set a standard and provided a doctrinal framework by which I would discern the spiritual and theological value of books for the next 30 years.

Theology? For too many people, that's a bad word. For Packer, it's "the study of God"; what more noble pursuit is there?

Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die
Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die

Review:This book does what any book examining Scripture should do - it takes Scripture, whether it be a difficult or simple passage, and then simply explains it for all to understand. Furthermore, it provides the correct context for the Passion (I recommend Matthew Mark, Luke, and John for further information!) and Christ's purpose.
Those who have negatively reviewed this book because it purports "dogma" obviously do not have a problem with "dogma" but with the Word of God, for every chapter Piper ... Read more

The Supremacy of God in Missions - Let the Nations Be Glad!
The Supremacy of God in Missions - Let the Nations Be Glad!

Review:Piper is a very interesting writer and if you are a Reformed Baptist, I'm sure you have enjoyed his writings. More broadly speaking, I'm sure that if you have been even remotely involved in church ministry, you have either heard of him in some capacity, read his books, or both. This book, dealing with missions, was an interesting read for me. I was required to complete a critical analysis paper on the missiological and theological implications in this book, set forth for the fulfillment of Chris... Read more

Desiring God: Meditations of A Christian Hedonist
Desiring God: Meditations of A Christian Hedonist

Review:Piper writes: "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him." What a life changing concept!!! And it is Scripturally sound! The activity of our faith in Jesus Christ is wrapped up in being satisfied in all that God promises to be for us in Jesus! Joy is the business of Christianity. Piper's well thought-out and wonderfully argued thesis will change your life. His grasp of God's soveriegnty will put you in awe of God and spark in your soul a desire to get more of God. ...
