How often we worry about making ourselves all that God would have us to be. Truth is, If God doesn't make us holy, we can't get there from here. A.W. Tozer is one of the greats and It is my belief that we should spend more time in the older books, many of the newer ones are nowhere near as challenging. This is not a feel good book, it is a get better read.

40% of books sold in US Christian books are junk. Self help books, Fix your problems by thinking positive books, Give orders and wish lists to God for your success kind of books, sort out all of life and fix all problems in 5 minutes books.
If that is why you buy "Christian" books, forget this one because Tozier will call you back to a worship of God and an abandonement of immature Christian "silliness".
Tozier, talks about the basic underpinnings and presupposition of Christian faith. He talks about the responsibility of each believer after he believes or as he searches to grow and advance in his or her Christian faith. He talks about genuine faith and points us on a road to Christian maturity. Tozier's books can be read on the same level and seriousness of the early church fathers. Because he lived in the fifties, his books and thoughts are quite readable, though not necessarily simple to implement.
The Knowledge of the Holy is an excellent antidote to "easy believism" and "I'm saved, so it's all over easy believism common in our churches today.
I once attended Tabernacle Church in Norfolk, Va where he once preached in John Dunlop's pulpit.

You can always depend on Tozer for a solid theological viewpoint.
This book starts off with some of the best descriptions about who God is and how are to think about Him. Really profound.
About half way I feels like it tapers off. Still a good read just not as amazing. If you like Hymns you'll love A. W. Tozer. and the beginning and all throughout this book he interlaces' Hymns of the faith.

Solid teaching on the Holy Spirit! No watered down shenanigans and cliches here. This is for the hungry soul who is looking for solid teaching on the Holy Spirit, who He is, and how He works. Tozer is surprisingly personal in this book and takes you along on his journey of faith to discovering the intricacies and simplicities of the Holy Spirit.

This book bears re-reading numerous times. It works wonderfully well for calming the mind before sleep as well as challenging the mind to begin the day in a right relationship with God. Tozer gives us wonderful Biblical insight into the character of God.

Short chapters, but each chapter can get pretty deep. My church used this book as a material for our young adult retreat. The short chapters make it very easy to break down into sessions and people found it very helpful to prepare a 30min session out of a chapter or two.

Tozer's insight and passion shines on every page. Practically every sentence is quotable! He points out the truth of how our perception of God's attributes shapes our life's philosophies and attitudes. When we truly seek to know the loving, righteous, and HOLY God, we live with an assurance and contentment that is indescribable. I would like to live each day getting to know God's attributes more. This book is profound and uplifting. I will read more Tozer.

My Christian Ministries teacher said that this was the single book that affected/changed his life the most. My husband is a different person since reading it a few months ago. Completely changed his perspective of God.

Truly enjoy the layman's language used in describing the attributes and characteristics of God. The book does not seem to be written for the theologian but for the believer who desires to know more about God and draw closer to Him. Informative & inspiring.

I bought this because it was recommended to me. I have read Tozer's book "The Pursuit of God " a couple of times, and I just knew that this was one I should read too. I read a little bit at a time so as to take time to contemplate over it.

This is a recognized classic work on the nature and character of God. In short chapters that allow for easy reading and reflection, AW Tozer moves from the realities of God to one's relationship with this God in clear, concise language. Though written mid-century, it heralds a message for contemporary seekers of God.

Wonderful insight into the attributes of God. Great teaching/lecture material as well. I actually used the book in one of my 8-week Ministerial Training classes. A.W. Tozer certainly paints a vivid picture, with scriptural basis, of the nature and intent of our Creator.

A TREASURE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT OUR GOD OF HOLINESS! The first book ever to challenge Theology for Beginners by F. J. Sheed; heretofore my favorite! A. W. Tozer in this book relates everything to Scripture and that is important!

AW Tozer presents a very strong case for the diminished knowledge and/or recognition that we experience today regarding the absolute holiness of God. He maintains that without truly understanding the absolute Holy nature of God, we do a disservice in our worship, prayer and praise.
A very thought-provoking and excellent read! You

This book is something that every Christian should read and truly take to heart. Knowing God more and growing closer to Him should be our goal. This book will challenge the reader to walk closer to the Savior. READ IT! Then do it!

For the serious Christian, this book is a must have. Drawing many concepts from old world puritan teachings, A.W. tozer identifies the root problem with the modem Christian disposition: a distorted view of God. The following chapters are a remedy and a reminder of who we serve. Although written over 50 years ago, the book is easily read and understood. This, combined with the deep thinking that has seemingly disappeared in our time, makes The Knowledge of the Holy not only a classic, but a necessity for those driven onward and upward.

He has some excellent insights, but he's not easy to read. You can skim it, but if you do you miss the guts of what he's saying. So if you want to dig in it's a five-star book. If skimming probably only a two-star read. You get out what you put in in this case!

What can I say about Tozer? You will find yourself highlighting the entire book if not extremely careful. His words are not God's Word but they are not far away from it. There is much to learn here for those who want more of God than a casual relationship.

Simply written with great truths. It's amazing that this book was written so long ago, yet seems as if it could have been written this year. If you're a mature Christian looking for something new besides pop-Christian of today, I highly recommend this or any other Tozer book.

Life changing - Tozer tells us what and who God really is ..... Not what we have perceived him to be by our worldly experiences or wishes! Take time to read this mighty work and your perspective of the truth will be shifted to a more biblical view of the true God of our faith.
