In Your Corner (Redemption)
In Your Corner (Redemption)

Review:Super smexy alpha male romance... yes, please. This was a super fun read and while I wish I read book one first because I felt like I was "missing" some things, this was fine as a stand alone. I have been digging the MMA books lately, so this was a perfect fit for me. While I did not love Amanda and we would never be friends, it was nice to have a lawyer (brains) as the female love interest and if I am to be honest I must like her a bit because I was cheering her on all the way. That is a te... Read more

Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai
Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai

Review:I ordered this book hoping to gain an insight into the Japanese mindset. It did this admirably. Obviously, an island culture is insular, and around 800 AD CE they lapsed into a culture that glorified the warrior, and not the scholar. This background is still apparent in Japanese culture. If you are interested in Bushido, and the attendant culture that goes with it, I recommend. Read more

from America's Brightest Prodigy to the Edge of Madness

Review:It was a pleasure to read this Fischer's biography. As a chess amateur, while studying the game I also liked to study the life to the greatest chess players from the past and Fischer had a strange resemblance with Jesus Christ life : No one seems to know a period of his life.

This book covers those "voided years" like when he stopped playing for near two years to return so strong that was well above any of his peers and also what happened to him after went into oblivion after achieving wh... Read more

A Life Without Limits: A World Champion's Journey
A Life Without Limits: A World Champion's Journey

Review:This book was inspirational from start to end. Living up to her muppet nickname, Chrissie Wellington shows how mind overcomes matter with the most amazing outcomes. The determination and sheer bull-headedness has taken her to the top of her game. She has given me the courage to live life a little more and to hold back a lot less. Read more

A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike - Just Ride
A Radically Practical Guide to Riding Your Bike - Just Ride

Review:Practical is the right word to describe this book: the author eschews trendy clothing, bikes and accessories and advocates just getting on the thing and riding. Lots of valuable info. Stop by his shop in Walnut Creek if you're ever in the area, nice knowledgable people. Read more

Systematically & Mercilessly Realigning the World of Cycling
Systematically & Mercilessly Realigning the World of Cycling

Review:208 pages of tedium followed by 11 pages of mildly humorous writing. I'm a big fan of Bike Snob's blog, but this book was a real let-down. In some parts it felt like he was trying too hard to be funny. Other times, it felt like he was trying to be unfunny. It just didn't hit the same chord as his web page. I'll try re-reading it in a couple weeks. Maybe I'll see some humour I missed the first time round. But right now, I wouldn't recommend this book. Read more

The Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels - It's All About the Bike
The Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels - It's All About the Bike

Review:The author's love for all aspects of bicycling is quite evident in this book: the history, its culture, the joy of riding, the challenge of long trips, and the bike itself. But most of all, he is intrigued by "old-school" bicycle craftsmen, who know virtually everything about bicycles, tend to use traditional tools and techniques, and are committed to quality above all else. The basis of this book is the author's quest to have the perfect - for him - bike built, utilizing the knowledge of bicycl... Read more
