Review:This book is beautiful, captivating, heartbreaking, mystifying, and even educational. You are immersed in pen drawn pages contrasting monsters that hurt us and the monsters we can aspire to be. Young Karen tries to solve the mysterious death of a neighbor as other mysteries and real life horrors pile up on her. She sketches the covers of her horror comic books, famous works of art, and her encounters with the incredible personalities of Chicago. It is both painful and beautiful. You will want th... Review:If you love Deadpool, you will love this! It is a what if? scenario. Short, but sweet. I would defo consider it leaning towards horror. So, perhaps read it first if you want to give it to your tween or teenager to see if you think it's appropriate for them. Adults however, should thoroughly enjoy it, as I did! Read more
Review:This story of Craig’s adolescence is very well crafted and told in a very compelling fashion. The storyline kept me hooked for the duration of novel and I really cared for the characters. The artwork is easy to follow and attractive to the eye. I also liked that this was a longer graphic novel, so it had enough substance to make it feel like it was worth my money. My one regret is that I read this in the middle of the summer, but it would be a perfect read for those cozy winter days by the fire. Read more
Review:The book arrived a lot sooner than the estimated date and I was very happy. It was a in perfect condition, and I was very happy to receive this wonderful piece of art published by Neil Gaiman. Anyone who has ordered Neil Gaiman's "Preludes and Nocturnes" in the Sandman series, you HAVE to order this one! Read more
Review:This opening story arc is the origin story. It is weighed down by the things origin stories always struggle with. There are individual moments that truly shine, but there's too much happening to allow the story and characters to breathe. Sandman doesn't get to be much more than an enigmatic vengeful revenant. The arc builds him up as badass, and I love how his sister shows up at the end to take the piss out of him (like siblings do). Good but not blown away yet. Looking forward to reading more.<... Review:This is simply a great book. Neil Gaiman is a genius, and I have no doubt that he is one of the names of our era that will go down in literary history. One of the reasons for this is that despite writing in a genre that has traditionally been considered masculine, Gaiman has a profound understanding of the female psyche, and that understanding is best shown off in this chapter of the Sandman series. Although I hesitate to recommend this collection as an introduction to Gaiman's work, I do think ... Read more
Review:This is one hefty coffee table book. I was able to get it for a very good price and astounded at how high quality the outer slipcase box is and how fun it is to look through the books and recognize artwork from games I enjoyed as a child. Very nice! Read more
Review:Rather disappointed in the text of the story - not really written for babies or toddlers, although it's a board book. The illustrations are okay, but the storyline is a bit violent for bedtime and follows the superhero action type of plot. Read more
Review:My daughter loves this heroine, and she's a decent roll model. Spunky, perky, and really funny ... not afraid to fight if she has to but also clever enough to talk her way out of situations and avoid violence. Read more
Review:I'm somewhere between a three and a four on this. Nguyen's artwork is incredible, and some of the best I've seen from him. I love his designs, and the watercolor look works extremely well for the painterly vibe of the story. Lemire etches a nook of his own in the sci-fi world here, with a lovingly developed world, full of unique races and planets. All of these ideas hit familiar notes though, and at the end of volume one, I'm still waiting for Lemire to show me why this work is different from wh... Read more
