Review:This was a good book. I love depressing memoirs and this fit the bill for 80% of the book. I didn't really like that it gave a weird 1/2 foreshadowing at the very beginning then goes all the back so then you know exactly when her parents get deported so you're not really getting into the full shock of it all for her. It wasn't like everyone didn't know, it says it on the book jacket but you otherwise it would have been more in keeping with the trauma of the story. She works hard to achieve her d... Read more
Review:Have been reading several books on the History of the Code Talkers and found this to be as informative as the others. Great book to read and very descriptive as to the Mission of the group. Very brave men to do what they did and proud of them for stepping up for their Country and giving their All. Read more
Review:Angelica Huston's memoir is a delight. She writes of growing up in Ireland, England, and New York in the 60's and 70's. This is the 1st part, the 2nd coming out next fall. She writes well and you can live her moments with her. And I can only believe the next will be better with all the Hollywood dish of the 80's. Read more
Review:these stories and this perspective were totally new to me and this book presented them in a totally candid way that really enables the reader to identify with the girls in every step of their journey, from pre-pregnancy romance to seeking out the children they couldn't forget years and even decades later after they had formed other families.
Desde Guatemala Read more
Review:This book might be good the Francophile who has never been to France and who never intends to visit.
It is extremely descriptive reflection of the author's time in France - of the simple everyday happenings and personalities one would encounter in France- it has the old grandmother telling you how to properly cut and cook the beans (most every Frenchie thinks their way is best) and the "sounds" of the cafes.. etc.... The author also tells us of the multiple occasions she refused to try French... Read more
Review:Really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read as far as historical narratives go and I would recommend it to anyone who likes the "wild, wild, west." The book goes back and forth in explaining the lives of these two men in such a way that it holds one's interest. Read more
Review:I've read many Holocaust survivor stories but the ones written from a child's point of view are most interesting to me. Events that are devastating to an adult are perceived so differently by children. One thing children pick up on is tension and this book portrays that aspect realistically. I read it in one sitting. Great book and I'm grateful to the author for sharing her experience. Read more
Review:I watched the movie then decided I really need to know more. This story is amazing! It is written in his own words. The fact that this man could write about all the terrible things done to him and not have a bitter attitude about it really speaks about the value of forgiveness. Forgiveness frees us to live and not be ruled by those who have hurt us. Also the journal entries of Wilm Hosenfeld are extremely interesting. Very worthwhile reading! Read more
