Nature & Ecology

Prodigal Summer
Prodigal Summer

Review:While not a true Kingsolver fan, I am rapidly becomming one! After reading Poisonwood Bible and enjoying it, I read this and absolutely loved it. What I didn't know about ecology, coyotes and moths could fill volumes. I really enjoyed the characters and their interwoven stories and learned so much about the delicate balance of nature. I would recommend this book to anyone without hesitation. It was absolutely wonderful. Read more

Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds - Mind of the Raven
Investigations and Adventures with Wolf-Birds - Mind of the Raven

Review:This guys is some kind of weird freak. Seriously. His social experiments with the birds, his obsession with all the weird little things. Nonetheless, an interesting read. I would take what he says with a grain of salt. He is a little too close to the subject for objectivity.

In his whole discussion of the interaction between Ravens and Wolves, I think he may be seeing what he wants to see more than what is there. I live and work in Yellowstone National Park, and while there may be a... Read more

Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Hardback) - Common
Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Hardback) - Common

Review:I originally read this book, in the tree flesh about 9 years ago and recently purchased this audio book in search of something nostalgic, familiar that soothe my ire to an from work on the 110 Freeway. The recording itself is not bad, the speaker's voice is what you would want to hear nature narrations told in. Although when going through a mid-youth crisis as I am, I found myself having to skip back tracks often, attempting to find the greater meaning that Dillard has so expertly woven in betw... Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (Harper Perennial Modern Classics)

Review:At the conclusion of my second reading (23 years after the first), I continue my dedication to this fascinating creation. I have carried visions and quotes from Tinker all of these years and will continue to share them with those who I care about. I am putting a copy in my grandchildren's Mimi box. Read more

Coyote Peterson’s Brave Adventures - Wild Animals in a Wild World
Coyote Peterson’s Brave Adventures - Wild Animals in a Wild World

Review:This book is really well-written, but I bought it for my 9 year old son who loves Coyote Peterson's YouTube channel and it's not something he can easily read alone. It's probably written more toward maybe a 12 year old's capabilities, but again--very well written and great animal adventures. Read more

Essentials of Oceanography (11th Edition)
Essentials of Oceanography (11th Edition)

Review:Be careful you don't throw away the cellophane wrapping around the book when you receive it, because apparently there's a valuable code on the label that is the only way you can enable the access to the online content, unless you're interested in paying an additional amount for the right. Content is identical to the hardcover textbook, but don't think about trying to enable access to online web content without that special code! Read more

and Preparing Edible Wild Plants - A Guide to Identifying

Review:Beautiful and informative in the extreme. I doubt if I will ever be able to see even half of these plants in a lifetime. However, it is imperative to know enough to survive and thrive. Everyone should have this book as well as Thayer's other book on edible plants. Thanks and blessings! Read more

Review:Very good product. Bought this for my daughter at Christmas. She was 10 years old at the time and now is 11. Months later, she still enjoys doing her nails, using the designs in this book. Not sure about the quality of the polish, but that's not the point. Buy this for the instructions and ideas. Read more
