Beautiful and informative in the extreme. I doubt if I will ever be able to see even half of these plants in a lifetime. However, it is imperative to know enough to survive and thrive. Everyone should have this book as well as Thayer's other book on edible plants. Thanks and blessings!

Well organized book on where to forage, how to harvest and prepare various plants, and various ways of storing your harvest. Excellent section on each individual plant, with detailed descriptions and pictures for identification purposes, along with harvesting times and preparation tips.

Nice color pictures, great descriptions & how to. If you have a plant you are trying to identify, it would be helpful to havr another section, perhaps color coded, to help ID it. Then reference the write up in the book.

Someday I think everyone will need this book. If there is ever a disaster, it helps to know what is edible and what is not. I try to be ready for whatever happens. I think this book is definitely one every household should have.

Best price I found on this book, which contents may turn out to be useful or needed some time in the future. Just started reading it but so far so good. The author seems to know his stuff and it is well written. Recommended!

This book is helpful for identifying and steering you away from look-alike plants you can eat in the wild or even in your yard. It gives you the best time to harvest them and what parts of the plant are edible and how to prepare the different parts.

Written for beginners to snake-eaters. This book inspires confidence and encourages you to explore options ignored previously through lack of experience. Easily one of the best organized on subject, with a guide for all seasons.

If you're just starting to forage with no knowledge (like I was), this book is a great resource and has comprehensive information about each plant that is mentioned. I plan to buy Thayer's other book, Nature's Garden, soon.

Best book every about edible wild plants, even better than Eule Gibbons. Packed with many color photos of each plant. He only reviewed a couple dozen plants, but he did so with such detail that I could safely say I could start using this from day one. Would recommend this book to anyone. I plan and buying ever book he has written.

I have recently been getting into foraging and Mr. Thayer's past two books have been a great help to me and a pleasure to read! I read his books, like novels, in less than two days. I am anxious to get out and carefully test my knowledge but I have two questions for the author...hopefuly he reads this review...but I am open to anyone's suggestions!
1) For the wild grape wine recipe, how much yeast do you add? (I am obviously a novice enologist)
2) Have you ever made or heard of anyone making wine out of black locust flowers?
Thanks for your time and your books,
Niko

Full of very practical information that everyone should know. If you love the outdoors and find yourself out there very often this book is a must as a reference. It's only deficiency is a lack of a good picture reference section.

This book inspired me to try eating the milkweed that is growing all over my back yard. Following the sniff-touch to tongue - taste - chew - swallow - wait 5 hrs sequence, we determined ours was edible. We have so far cooked up several plates of milkweed stems. They taste like asparagus but milder.

The book goes into some level of depth with the plants it covers, enough to give you some level of confidence. For a more comprehensive book, see the Peterson Guide.

Purchased to add to our "just in case" kit. Reading through the contents, this book has the potential to help in everyday situations. Really glad we bought it, just hope we never actually "need" it.

The other reviews cover the strengths of this book well. Just wanted to add my 5 stars! I ordered about 6 books at the same time as a beginner foraging and this is definitely the best in terms of treatment and tutorial on foraging. I only wish the author had covered more plants!

Another great book by Thayer. Lot's of info ideas for use and where to find these great tasting treats. Use the book and if you just find and use four or five of the wild plants that four or five ways to cut your grocery bill.

DO NOT EAT ANY WILD PLANTS UNTIL... you have studied this book "The Forager's Harvest. A Guide to Identifying Wild Plants". Read, read, read and read some more. This has become a an excellent reference for my "Nature Library".

I love this book. The author not only helps show you where and when to find the plants and how to identify them; he takes it two or three steps farther and gives examples of how to harvest, prepare and store. A must have for aspiring survialists.
