A Guide to the Natural World (5th Edition)

This book arrived quickly which I appreciated, but I returned it after the semester as I was renting it and I never received the price adjustment. Instead I was charged the purchase price.

I contacted the store about this because the cc used to make the rental had expired and I didn't know if they needed a new card # or would send a check. the store said they would send a check. I've contacted them twice by email but still haven't received a price adjustment and no I now longer have the book either!

I did not get this blue cover as pictured. Instead I was given the white cover which, is not what I paid for and the book was in a lot worse condition than how it was described in the sellers description. I guess you'll just have to be stuck with what they feel like sending you.

I need this book for school. I was really pleased with how fast the book came. The book was in good condition and even though I am not doing so well in the class the book is surving it's purpose. Thank You

There were many formatting errors in this book, such as the glossary columns being switched around-"G" doesn't belong in the middle of the "F" vocab. Some of the page #'s listed in the index were not correct. If you must use this book then you should know that the info can normally be found close to the page listed in the index. The figures/tables were very useful and restated the text in an organized manner, which helped the flow of the writing.

Although there now is a 4th edition, our professor said we could purchase the 3rd edition for our class. I find this textbook to be in language that the average person can understand, in spite of its scientific contents. The author also uses examples the student can relate to. Thank you.

Its a very thorough text for college biology, I wouldn't have bought it for leisurely reading, but it is an excellent textbook nonetheless. Detailed and logical progression covering everything you need for an intro to biology course.

This textbook was used for my introductory biology class. While the images are well done, the text is lacking. It's a good book if you want something that "glosses over" biology, but I would not recommend it for the classroom. I have to agree with the other reviewers.

Today my daughter came home with FIVE textbooks, which she purchased from the UNLV bookstore. Total cost? [...]. The text I am reviewing is shrink-wrapped, and is a "custom" book, ordered by the professor, who receives a kickback from the publisher. THE the store PRICE IS THE SAME AS THE UNLV BOOKSTORE PRICE, [...]. ESTIMATED DELIVERY TIME IS 1-2 MONTHS FROM the store. I do not even need to open the book, to give a lousy review. This does not even include the "Laboratory Manual," entitled, 'UNLV Biology 189 7e." That cost [...] for a little spiral bound piece of crap. Other schools, including UNR, have some degree of control over textbooks sold to students. They require that the book will be used for a specific period of time, so that students may sell them back, and other students will be able to purchase used textbooks. UNLV has no such policy. Professors order "custom" textbooks, which take many months for the bookstore to acquire. At the time of this review, there are many "custom" textbooks, ordered by professors, which the publishers have not even PRINTED yet. So, many students attending classes at UNLV (classes started today, 23-Aug-2010), will be starting class WITHOUT their [...] textbooks! BEWARE!!! Included in the [...] price we paid for my daughter's textbooks, is a TEXTBOOK RENTAL, for half the price of new. A RENTAL. And, it is used. Plus, a dog-eared paperback World Literature, entitled, 'The Bedford Anthology of World Literature (2) The Modern World, 1650-The Present COMPACT Edition. At the top of the cover appear these words: "Customized for UNLV, English 232: World Literature II." The price? [...]. A mangled, used, paperback book.
