Review:The History of the Middle Earth was put together by Christopher Tolkien, JRR's son. The effort involved sifting through his fathers notes and organizing them, which in itself is a difficult task. Oft time names were changed from story to story and Christopher had to decipher outlines and light pencil markings. In many a case we have just outlines and scant poems thrown around. But this is the backstory to the Simarrilion. This is where Middle Earth according to Tolkien was created. The story lin... Read more
Review:This book picks up where the first left off, opening with the tale of Tinuviel. It then carries you through the original conceptions Turin (Turambar and the Foaloke), and then on to Tuor (the fall of Gondolin). After these stories it gets a little harder to follow as the notes that Christopher uses become much more mish-mashed.
The tale of Tinuviel is interesting because this is one that goes through many different changes.
the basic story is there but it was written at the time when th... Read more
Review:I rarely read novels and less short stories, so I did not know what to expect. I have not finished reading this book and may not. Please don't misunderstand me, Hemmingway is a world famous writer and that is not by chance or sheer luck. He was skillful and dedicated to his craft. Who am I to criticize. I still appreciate his incredible work to produce this book. I still want to read The Old Man and the Sea, since it is one of his most famous works. Read more
Review:With "Steven Pressfield" on the cover, it took less than a heartbeat for me to grab this book--after "Gates of Fire," I was more than eager to be caught up again in the author's enthralling prose of storytelling.
Even with the author's Note on the Reader expressly stating this as a work of fiction, I soon found myself actually believing that it really was Alexander speaking his own thoughts--what he felt as he emerged from the shadow of his father, as he tasted the first of his numerous v... Read more
Review:Collection of stories, not well represented in the description. It's an anthology of stories, none of which were written by Stephen King. Hence one star. Will read maybe at some point and rescore if appropriate. Read more
Review:Glad I got this series on audio! Great narration and crazy good books too! My only issue was the case for the MP3's. All three are in one case which is cool. But they do not stay in place well and are at serious risk of scratching. I experienced this with another multi CD book set. The publishers really need to work on this packaging problem.
I did enjoy the books so much, I'll be purchasing more from this author. Read more
Review:Spoiler Alert Read at your own Risk
This was a really good book and I love reading Ms. James's books. Barrel racer Celia Lawson knows that rider Kyle Gilchrist is the love'em and leave'em type in other words he is a manwhore of the rodeo circuit. He is also her brother's best friend and they grew up together and they didn't get along as kids. After a night of drinking she wakes up in Vegas to find that she is married to the man when she insists on an annulment Kyle knows that he should say no... Read more
Review:Close Range is a collection of eleven short stories from the short fiction master, Annie Proulx. As usual for Proulx, and as the title suggests, we get stories of people toughing it out in Wyoming, farming, bull riding, surviving. Proulx is adept at short fiction because she can paint characters and plot with quick brush strokes. But where she really shines is with her unique descriptions of landscape. "The country appeared as empty ground, big sagebrush, rabbit brush, intricate sky, flocks ... Read more
Review:Love the main characters in this series, and this short novella gave a hint at their chemistry. I think that if you are wondering how they act around others (not just when they are driving each other crazy) then this is the book for you! Read more
