The Monster Hunter Files
The Monster Hunter Files

Review:A few stories - Ringo is a standout - were great fun, and truly in the wild, crazy, happy spirit of Monster Hunters books written by both Correia and Ringo. There were some interesting ideas presented in the stories as well, and there was a good quantity of original, imaginative work. But most of the stories don't ring 'true' to the spirit of MH. Characterizations of some of the main protagonists from the original stories were especially unconvincing.
In the end, I was left unsatisfied. Inste... Read more

Henry James: Daisy Miller
Henry James: Daisy Miller

Review:"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." -- Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV)

Daisy Miller is the essence of a well-written novella: deep characterizations developed through a variety of interactions, minimal prose to capture a point, carefully balanced action that rounds out a message, plenty of exhibition of internal thoughts and feelings, and stark contrasts in personal philosophies. Whi... Read more

Last Breath
Last Breath

Review:I enjoyed Last Breath, although at first I thought I was reading the new novel due out August 8. It's a great, fast paced story, with characters you instantly know. Karin is the master of surprise and interesting twists, and this book doesn't disappoint! Read more

Difficult Women
Difficult Women

Review:The writing was, undeniably, spectacular. But the meat of the novel was cruel and dark and l hated it with every part of my being. I don't want to read about these kinds of things, not because I deny things like these stories can happen, but because such pain was read instead of such joy. I'd rather spend my time elsewhere. Stone Mattress: Nine Wicked Tales
Stone Mattress: Nine Wicked Tales

Review:Once upon a time, I joked that Margaret Atwood could write about a walk to the grocery store in such a way that it became a dangerous, harrowing, terrifying experience that prompted readers to question every aspect of the universe. Such a walk could lead to a deep examination of every facet of the human experience, and in analyzing our collected data, we would find ourselves severely lacking. Anyone we passed on the three block walk to the store would make us hyper aware of our flaws, our shortc... Read more

Three Novels: Molloy, Malone Dies, The Unnamable
Three Novels: Molloy, Malone Dies, The Unnamable

Review:Rate this play is a little bit tricky. We all know Beckett's importance and his contribution to Literature, but this is a heavy play to read. This e-book version is very good and comfortable to read, especially in not so big screens.
The only thing I missed was some keynotes or some notes about the play or Beckett's life. Maybe a little review on the play and its context, since I only was able to understand - or try - because I am studying it in college. Read more

Tales of the Jazz Age (A Penguin Classics Hardcover)
Tales of the Jazz Age (A Penguin Classics Hardcover)

Review:This was a waste of ten dollars. Amazon should not list this as a book. It is a pamphlet that was 26 pages long. I wanted to read a novel after seeing the movie. I cannot believe that Amazon would rip off a good customer like that. Read more

The Complete Stories (FSG Classics)
The Complete Stories (FSG Classics)

Review:A good low-cost collection of O'Connor's works, perfect bound and paper not too flimsy (could be heavier). Rather small format. Definitely worh the few dollars I paid for it online, saving the search at used book sales, etc. Read more

The Book of Lost Tales 1 (History of Middle-Earth) (Pt. 1)
The Book of Lost Tales 1 (History of Middle-Earth) (Pt. 1)

Review:The book of Lost Tales, Part II includes further tales of the First Age of Middle Earth including: Beren and Luthein, the tale of Turambar (the children of Hurin), the fall of Gondolin, and sketches of the tale of Earendel. Also described are Tolkien's outlines for fleshing out the mythology and developing the right framing devise (a problem he would struggle with all his life).

For me, the clear stand outs here are The tale of Tinuviel and The tale of the Fall of Gondolin. The tale of ... Read more

Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter
Narcissus in Chains (Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter

Review:Narcissus in Chains was a book I eagerly anticipated. Like the rest of the Anita Blake series, I waited until I had a whole day fre to read it, knowing I would have a hard time putting it down. That much was true, but with the end of the book I felt something was missing. I'm not sure I can pinpoint exatly what it was, but the plot, while filled to bursting with new characters and old, just did not make it. I've been waiting for some sense of closure, insight, or sercure attachment on Anita's pa... Read more
