Review:I absolutely loved this anthology of Sherrilyn Kenyon's back stories for characters that pop up in the novels. The Gallagher story revealed more about Acheron and his interaction with the human race, while I loved Acheron's role in bringing a werewolf together with his werepanther wife. The werewolf has a famous bar that makes it's way into numerous stories. I loved the variety and the information-one of the stories made me go back and re-read "Styx" for the connection to the characters. Just a ... Read more
Review:I purchased the kindle edition of this book, and boy was it worth it. I felt like I was getting two books in one. *SPOILER!* Not only do you get Andrea's and Rafael's story, you also get a shorter story on Kate and Curran, based more or less in the same timeline. Both are great, and very well researched! I especially LOVED the neo-vikings! Yes, neo-vikiings. Read and you'll see what I'm talking about. Buy it! IT IS A WONDERFUL READ! Read more
Review:I'm perplexed by some of the reviews calling the stories in this excellent collection from Jhumpa Lahiri 'monotonous.' Other than the fact that the stories all start with a base of second-generation Bengalis in the US, each of tales seem fresh, new and inventive. It's a treat to see the small worlds that Ms. Lahari can create in 40 or so pages from a standing start. Of course, I came in with a bias: I adored The Nam... Read more
Review:The author is new to me; a friend recommended I read it. I am still perplexed: are the stories meant to be characters caught "in the moment;" or is there something else going on. I am not sure. It hasn't caught fire with me, yet, but I am willing to give it time. Read more
Review:This being the fourth in the series I kind of knew the books read a little slow at times and there's never a lot of action. My main reason for reading this was to see if she and Ethan finally worked anything out.
**spoiler alert**
So needless to say I was very disappointed when out of nowhere and in the blink of an eye - he gets staked! Really? And then it was oh so easy for her to stake the vampire that staked Ethan.. this all so powerful female vamp that she feared so much? I... Read more
Review:I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend, and because I am generally a fan of B.J. Novak (I love The Office and I find Novak's childrens' book hilarious). I was a little disappointed. I expected a lot more laugh-out-loud moments. Instead a got a few chuckles and mostly a lot of, for lack of a better word, weirdness. It's not a bad read, just kind of odd. The short-story format is nice for a busy schedule (I picked it up and read a story or two at a time when I could find a few m... Read more
Review:I wanted to like this work but kept feeling myself getting irritated. Cheever has a remarkable knack of repeating sections of dialogue a little too long, or putting passages of text the wrong way round. Almost without fail I was frustrated with the construction of a story; "How much sharper, more satisfactory," I thought to myself, "if he had put this section before (or after) the other one!" And if I can see that...
When I purchased this book I can only assume that I mistook Cheever for Raym... Read more
Review:If you like stories where something happens, characters find fullfillment, love and success, characters talk things out and get somewhere----this book is not for you. I like those books, but I like this too---in certain moods, usually when I'm taking things a little on the dark side. Carver is a master short story writer, but these are minimalist, very sad stories about people at the end of some tether or other. I can only read a few a night, and often reread them so I can stop reading for the a... Read more
Review:This is a brilliant book that contains all nineteen books written by James Allen. Allen is the master that hasn't really been recognised for his outstanding writing. This book is an all round guide to how you should run your life. It will help people of all ages but would be paticularly instuctive for young people. If you are going to buy a "self help' book, buy this one...it is outstanding Read more
Review:This book was a little weird. The part which brought it down to a "3 star" rating was where Time was trying to converse with someone going (directionally in time) opposite from him. You have to read whole sentences backward, and it gets really tedious! Read more
