Review:This book is as amazing as it is beautifully illustrated and packed with useful tips. After reading it I've never looked the same way at charts. It's amazing how bad most of the existing charts are. It's like taking a course in professional photography and then realizing the difference between a professional photograph and an amateur snapshot. Read more
Review:I've read Mlodinow's "Subliminal" first. That is a later effort and actually a lot more accessible than this volume here. Nevertheless, I think it is safe for me to say that both volumes will have literally changed my life.
Rich with entertaining anecdotes from the history of our knowledge of probability and science; written with wit and love. I can't recommend this book enough.
Thank you Mr. Mlodinow! Read more
Review:The author was able to convey a difficult subject into laymen's terms. Every body must know what is in the book about the network, because, we are all members of it. It is a politically neutral book. The author does not express any of his own views when he examines social issues. It is rather a math book than a self-help book. The discussed topics are the latest development in the field of mathematics, but you do not have to be a Mathematician to read or understand it. You can even use the knowl... Read more
Review:Very dense but such a great read. Gleick's research and facility with technical concepts is impressive! Like The Information this book will likely add nuance to the way you view the world and give you deep knowledge about Chaos Theory that goes way beyond the Butterfly Effect. Chaos <> Randomness! Review:I must say this Kindle book was a nice surprise - although the topic might discourage many people from browsing this book at all, I find the book to be very well written and appropriate for all audiences regardless of educational background. Formatting on the Kindle is overall acceptable, but with the occasional missing word or sub phrase, like in this example in Locations 2933-42 "Thus February 12, 1809, has and 14+14 = 0, so ..." Review:The book has some content, but as other reviewers noted, it is bad-organized and insufficient. The same way that in R the data frame is some sort of utilitarian ostrich that can sing, fly and run, this book is a crossing between a tutorial, a programming guide and a programming reference, albeit it does not excel at any.
Things that could have helped the book is a start with a more conceptual analysis of the data-structures in R, after all, there is plenty of free information in the Inte... Read more
Review:This workbook is a good basic book with both problems and the answers. It is helpful. I found the workbook problems a little more difficult then the actual textbook but I think that will be helpful in the long run to make you stretch your thinking of the concepts. Read more
Review:Great deal, Great price! Book was brand new or at least appeared to be. No torn pages, no writing or marks in the book and this purchase from AMAZON saved me over $100.00 of what I would have paid on campus at the bookstore!!! Read more
Review:I had planned on perusing this book although it is not the current required text. I just became so busy with the class and the actual text book that I never had time. I am leaving feedback so Amazon will get off my case about leaving feedback. Read more
Review:Given that I am not familiar with Russel's philosophical work, I was delighted that I was able to follow this with relatively little difficulty. I don't really think that it was meant to be an in-depth account of his theory, just a titillating introduction to further study. I also enjoyed the story in itself, as well as the creative self-referential style in which it was presented. I hope they do more on other intellectuals, I would certainly buy them. Read more
