Star Nomad: Fallen Empire, Book 1
Star Nomad: Fallen Empire, Book 1

Review:Lindsay does such a great job of developing her characters and making you fall in love with them. I loved the humor and action all throughout the book. I couldn't put it down and can't wait for the rest of the series. Read more

The Long War (Long Earth)
The Long War (Long Earth)

Review:If you've read The Long Earth, you might expect this book to carry on the plot thread about the major existential threat that is introduced near the end of that book. You will discover quickly in The Long War that that idea has been all but forgotten.

The Long War expands the cast of The Long Earth, bringing back nearly all the supporting characters and introducing a few new ones. Like its predecessor, The Long War doesn't really do anything with most of them. There are some subplots that... Read more

Review:I would say The Ancillary Justice trilogy is one of my favorite series of the last 30 years. Such a confusing, fresh, and ultimately clearly new and novel take on selfhood (with very satisfying gender themes too). This little book seemed like a school girls giggle...There were actually hints of deeper ideas here - was there something unusual about her lost hairpins? Did a mechanical assistant, painted clearly a very bright pink, kill the ambassador? What was that tingle in the back of her neck? ... Read more

Ancillary Mercy (Imperial Radch)
Ancillary Mercy (Imperial Radch)

Review:Ancillary Justice, Ancillary Sword and Ancillary Mercy are three nicely independent novels that cover a single story as broad as a couple thousand years and as short as a couple of weeks. The story is an epic combination of revenge, reconciliation, and recovery, told from the point of view of a human who served two millennia as a puppet soldier. Oh, yes, and Leckie won a Nebula and Hugo for the first book in the series. Read more

The Benevolency Universe (Outworld Ranger Book 1)
The Benevolency Universe (Outworld Ranger Book 1)

Review:Enjoyable read with interesting characters. This book paints a promising future for series that will be fun to follow. It has all of the characteristics that I like in this genre. There are some quirky characters, good action sequences, and the author's take on future technology. Read more

The Honor of the Queen (Honor Harrington #2)
The Honor of the Queen (Honor Harrington #2)

Review:Excellent yarn in the line of the Hornblower saga but hundred of years in the future. Lots of space battles and a interesting heroine.
Howewer, long chapters are lost with long and boring "political" discussions. I like science fiction and Weber writes good one, but he deviates with "political science 1.o1" of future star kingdoms. Read more

A Novel in the Safehold Series - At the Sign of Triumph
A Novel in the Safehold Series - At the Sign of Triumph

Review:This book is a fitting end to the first nine books in the series. It resolves most of the major plot points, while providing a clear link in to the "next generation" series that I hope Mr. Weber gets to. It is very nice to see the villains of the series--Grand Inquisitor Jasper Clinton and his adjutant, Archbishop William Reynold, meet their ends, while the honorable "bad guys" like Admiral Gardener of Dohlar manage to escape their evil overseers. I am a big fan of Weber and want to see more ... Read more

Mission of Honor (Honor Harrington)
Mission of Honor (Honor Harrington)

Review:I loved the boldness of her arrival in Haven and the forthright way she dealt with the bureacrates. Her ability to read the opponents aids her in the negotiations. For once it was good to read one of Webers novels and not having thousands of people being killed. Others will enjoy this new aspect of Honor's chosen field. Read more

Into the Dark (Alexis Carew Book 1)
Into the Dark (Alexis Carew Book 1)

Review:From OldRetiredMilitary:
I really wanted to like this book, but I just could not get past the extreme Napoleonic era fighting sails motif. I've read a ton of science fiction starting in 1951 (Rocket Ship Galileo by Heinlein) and a lot of fighting sails novels starting in 1970 (Hornblower series while I was in Vietnam). I thoroughly enjoy each genre, but bringing forward almost everything from British warships of 1770-1820 to the era of a space navy just didn't work for me. I have seen the ... Read more

Space Carrier Avalon (Castle Federation Book 1)
Space Carrier Avalon (Castle Federation Book 1)

Review:Formula space opera. Officers on old ship facing unexpected attack by enemy forces. Usual personal stories of various characters. Space battles are ok, but nothing out of the ordinary. There are at least six similar series going as I write. Pleasent read, but not outstanding in any way. Read more
