Review:Great book for leaning Java. This book backs up concepts introduced with clear and logical examples. Then it takes those examples and expands on them with new concepts and makes the program more and more complicated over time. This approach really works well for learning. Some lazy learners may complain about its aggressiveness in the early chapters because some of the sample programs can hurt your brain if you're new to programming. For example there was a program that output "2 to the power of... Read more
Review:My son gave me a Chromebook to replace my Netbook. He helped me prepare a slide presentation at work and transfer it to Slides. I understand it more now. I took the presentation with a small projector to a realtor function. It went well (except they said I could have shown it from a thumb drive. My other szon got a Slimport so I can show the presentation from my Nexus. Also, printing from the cloud has been FD last and easy. Thank you! Read more
Review:This book was very interesting, held my attention well but the simple writing style distracted me so that is why I gave the book 3 instead of 4 stars. The writing style reminded me of reading an intelligent 5th or 6th grader could write. I get the impression the author wrote the book, his coauthor was only allowed to tinker with it somewhat. Review:Gives tips on how to tackle sticky situations with clients, how to back up your brand and shows thought processes and behind the scenes rough sketches in different designers' processes. A good read for any logo or branding designer. Easy to read, just the right amount of complexity to make it a valuable resource (so not just for beginners like many other branding books). Read more
Review:After reading two other books on design patterns, this one drove the concepts home. The author does a fine job explaining the material in a clear, well written manner. This book does not waste page after page of code listings found in many books trying to achieve a predetermined page count. However, the author could have provided some code on a CD or on the his web site. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone getting started with design patterns. Read more
Review:Douglas edwards is one lucky guy! Hence the name of the book. While reading this book I kept on asking....why are you at this company? After reading the book I kept asking...why was he at the company? The last chapter solidifies my opinion. Listen the book is a good read, albeit a tad droll after awhile of the growth of one of the greatest company acendecies of all time.
They must of really liked Doug because he really did not do much for the company. What he did do was take risk....he ri... Read more
