Review:A wonderful book to introduce and explain some of the key design patterns. The Java examples are well explained and clear. It's not an exhaustive definition, nor does it claim to be. It is, however, a very approachable guide. I reopen it to review the examples almost weekly. Well done Head First! Read more
Review:Refactoring definitely embodies the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover". Unfortunately I did this and missed out on a great book for too long. Franky, this thing looks like a text book... not something that would be an easy, enjoyable ready. However, this is exactly what it is.
Fowler's conversational style keeps the book moving and very enjoyable. He opens with a refactoring walkthrough that introduces you to the general concepts. After this the book catalogs all of the refactoring... Read more
Review:I enjoyed reading "The pragmatic programmer". It transcends process and discusses the fundamental aspects of software development. The book provides time and "buzz-word" invariant common-sense observations and tips about the practice. They are presented in a clear and straightforward manner, complete with many examples of actual code and actual tools. And herein lies my criticism. The code and tools are out of date. At this level of detail, they should be brought up to date. Read more
Review:The book is about digital anonymity. It starts with the very basic asks - strong passwords, securing your home network and the like. But soon gets on to things that most wouldn't even imagine. Burner phones are just a baffling idea.
Sites like DuckDuckGo, StartPage and ProtonMail are interesting tools that can be used. Features like pixel tracking, canvas fingerprinting allow online companies to know a lot about what you're doing on their site.
Reading about Tor was refreshing as I... Read more

Review:American Kingpin is a well-written and well-researched book that definitely informs the readers!!!!!! I liked reading this book mainly for the reason that he has a good part but also a part that was exploited by a bad use of technology!!! I would recommend this book to anyone!!! Read more
Review:DK puts out some fantastic books. The books are always ruggedly constructed and have wonderful illustrations.
This book is no exception. For fans of World of Warcraft (WoW), you will recognize most if not all of the artwork.
It is a bit of a survey book. That is almost unavoidable though, because there is a lot of material. You could probably do a five volume set of books this size and still not cover all of the existing WoW lore.
The book covers the current WoW canon (t... Read more
Review:After reading this book, I've never felt so pumped to play World of Warcraft- Christie seriously just made the expansion so much more fun for me now. Please, please, if you've read the other lore material for World of Warcraft, read this. Arguably the best written book in it's continuity, sans Rise of the Lich King. :) Read more

Review:I found the book to be well written and thorough. Although it is really for anyone who may have never played a street fighter title or a fighting game before, it does offer veterans of the game some outside perspective on strategy.
I do feel the book could have gone more in depth with some areas such as red focus, delayed wake up, and frame data understanding. Not saying frame data is key, but understanding it will give you more understanding of game engine and priority of buttons hit.
