Review:The greatest positive about this book is that it moves...and moves well. The greatest negative is its blood and gore. That is problem for me, and I understand that. Characters were well drawn, although I did get mixed a lot with the two Isrealis.
I also read "The English Girl" and liked it better. Think I will take a rest from Silva! Read more
Review:Well written. Quite censured, constrained like the author. Did not convince me of the truth, only the truth!!!! So like Speer, this book reveals only what the author wants to say.... self-promoting. I can see how some of his co-workers and Hitler's gang taught he was more a traitor than anything else...Never had a sense that Speer became "a better man" while in jail...because one has to connect with hits feelings and Speer does not seem to have the insight and ability to do so. Some cunning,misl... Read more
Review:As others who have reviewed this book, I, too, read historical novels about World War II from the Jewish perspective. This novel is written about 3 German women and how survived during this horrendous time in history. Very different and thought-provoking. Read more
Review:Hochschild is one of my favorite authors. His King Leopold's Ghost, about Belgian imperialism in the Congo, and Bury the Chains, about the fight to end slavery in the British Empire, are incomparable. In To End All Wars he touches on a theme that has been explored by many authors - how the nations of Europe entered the First World War without apparently having the slightest notion of how bloody, costly and disillusioning it would be. While he is certainly not the first author to portray this,... Read more
Review:My eyes misted over often with pride or empathy or frustration. The lies my schooling history told me, the perversions of organized religion, the glories and ignorant treacheries . The hope of a fair world for all to live in. I really enjoyed this very well written book. It was well worth the money. Read more
Review:I like this book simply because it gives an honest first hand experience into slavery, not the history book type of account with all its bias. It really touches you to see the suffering of one human at the hands of another. Makes me wonder about the so called superior cultured European and their cunning devices.
Love it because it's written from the heart. Read more
Review:Well, I highly doubt this is an honest account of this man's life
Towards the end, I did some research and found others too have doubted the accuracy. Some of his situations seem quite fanciful.
I do not, however, doubt the accuracy in portrayal of the treatment of enslaved and feed Africana and African Americans Read more
Review:I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely story about a young girl in Paris, whose expectations, reactions and attitude reminded me of my own girls when they were that age. An engaging read and I'm looking forward to a sequel! Read more
Review:Thoroughly enjoyable fast paced read highlighting the dangers and discomforts of submariners during WWII. A part of history shared by brave men on both sides. The only disappointment
nt I found in Mr. Gruber' s expressions of devout patriotism was any remorse for Germany's evils that came to light after the war.

Review:Imagine an author pitching a book..."The plot concerns a serial killer in occupied Paris during the Second World War. The killer is a physician who has dabbled in suburban politics, has a history of mental illness. His victims are gangsters and Jews, who engage him to obtain safe passage to South America after loading all their valuables into suitcases and sewing their jewelry into the lining of their clothes. The doctor drugs them and then tortures them in a homemade dungeon before dissecting t... Read more
