Frankenstein: Prodigal Son: A Novel
Frankenstein: Prodigal Son: A Novel

Review:I read Frankenstein about twenty years ago. I always thought it was a stand alone novel. The idea of a sequel never really crossed my mind. Koontz and Anderson bring back the magic of that incredible book while also adding a new ideas to the story that makes it hard to resist and impossible to put down.

This book is incredible. It takes place in present time so you get to see what your friends from original Frankenstein are doing over 200 years later. The story centers around two det... Read more

The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter
The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake - Vampire Hunter

Review:In this fourth Anita Blake novel our heroine no longer bears the marks of Jean-Claude or any other master vampire and is exploring a relationship with Richard, the middle school teacher. Of course there are problems: Richard is a werewolf whose pack leader is threatening to kill him, Jean-Claude will not take "no" for an answer and has a female vampire who wants to kill Anita, and Dolph wants help identifying the something that is killing lycanthropes (shapeshifters). "The Lunatic Cafe" is the... Read more

Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 8)
Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 8)

Review:I could not put this book down. This series just keeps getting better and better. Yes, the sex is pretty graphic, but graphic writing is one of the things that hooks you into this series. I find it interesting that the people who complain about the detailed descriptions of sex have no complaints about the equally detailed descriptions of mutilated corpses and rotting vampires. Think about it. Anita's powers do keep growing, but they aren't just falling out of the sky: they can all be trac... Read more

Bloody Bones: An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter Novel

Review:This installment of Anita Blake finds her focused on her primary job as an Animator. Anita is contracted for a raising of the dead to settle a property dispute in the Ozark mountains. While in the area, Anita is called in to advise on a preternatural killing. Unfortunately, the cop in charge is a woman with a chip on her shoulder the size of Alaska, and she does not want anyone interfering with her investigation.
To make matters worse, the age of the bodies is about another hundred years b... Read more

Vampire Hunter Novel - Circus of the Damned - An Anita Blake
Vampire Hunter Novel - Circus of the Damned - An Anita Blake

Review:There is a dose of politics in this one, both the human kind, and the vampire kind. The human issue is one of separatism, basically, as the Humans First organisation wants more information on and the ability to get rid of, the vampire power structures in the city.

This book again has Edward, which is always good.

Imagine if the Executioner or the Punisher got bored with hunting and killing crims and decided on something trickier, and you have a bit of an idea what Edward is about. ... Read more

Ripley's Game (Everyman's Library) - The Talented Mr. Ripley

Review:This is the third book in the Ripley series and Hightower delivers again. Our book club has decided to read this series as part of our bucket/book list. We have read two of the books in a row. We originally were going to read a book a year from the series but were so excited by the last one that we read this one the next month. Will see if we really wait a year. I have the movie now too but havent watched it yet. Read more

The Complete Father Brown Mysteries (Unabridged)
The Complete Father Brown Mysteries (Unabridged)

Review:These aren't classics for nothing but be warned if you have a low tolerance for bees in authors' bonnets - Chesterton has an agressive one about his dedicated Catholicism and it can wear a little thin due to sheer repetition. Most of these stories have at least one pointed exchange about it and his biting satires of groups with different ideas don't exactly come off as even-handed. That said, i just read these stories two or three at a time so i don't miss out on these ingenious mysteries. Read more

The Witches of Dark Root (Daughters of Dark Root Book 1)
The Witches of Dark Root (Daughters of Dark Root Book 1)

Review:I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It was an interesting fun read that kept me coming back for more. And unlike so many other books where it takes so long to get to the climax and then it's over so fast, this had a very satisfying pace and ending. If you're into witches, this is a great book to try.
