Review:This was a fairly interesting book. From what I gather about Freakenomics (a book I have never read but heard much about) this book seems to try to be a sports take on that. I can say that it did bring some interesting points to me however I felt that in a lot of cases the information was far too broad in scope and some of the conclusions they seemed to bring about were not fully justified.
The main point that they bring home, quite successfully I might add, is that the best way to look a... Read more
Review:Definitely one of the better books out there on statistics, particularly for individuals that might otherwise be intimidated by the subject. Walks through examples of the various tests and figures of statistics using easy to understand examples. Not the typical dry textbook on statistics. Read more
Review:Statistics is a hard subject in any textbook, I think Statistics for Dummies helped in advanced concepts, I would have been equally as pleased if the base concepts were dummied down just a little more. Dr. Rumsey should be commended on her ability to make a tough subject more understandable. Read more
Review:Once again, Dover comes across as the students best friend. Not only is their line of textbooks astoundingly cheaper, but they lose nothing in value. This text is no different. Not only does is get ideas and tough topics across with crisp, clear examples but their chapter breakdowns are excellent. Instead of filling your head with lots of extra theorems and corollaries this book pushes application and solid examples. Not only is it best for the engineer, but it's a great starting text. When I ne... Read more
Review:This was the first book I purchased from Amazon for school, and it came in great condition. I was thinking that purchasing a used book would be a result of a stinky, beat up horror, but I was surely wrong! Read more

Review:100 years have passed since the publishing of this book and it still remains one of the most popular resources for learning calculus. Well, the reason for this is thus: Mr. Thompson has compiled a wonderfully simple text for a step-by-step comprehension of calculus.
His writing style is both light-hearted and insightful. He begins the book by explaining the terminology and notation used in calculus, albeit in a humorous way. He riffs on the so-called "math experts" of his time who took th... Read more
Review:The book is amazing, the people I bought from were not. When the used book arrived from Czars all the pages were coated in a dingy film. The book reeked of an odor I must assume was rat piss. Holding the book to read made me nauseous and ill. After teaching through chapter 1, I finally took it to a graphic arts place and had them photo copy all the pages so that I could throw it away. Review:This book is as amazing as it is beautifully illustrated and packed with useful tips. After reading it I've never looked the same way at charts. It's amazing how bad most of the existing charts are. It's like taking a course in professional photography and then realizing the difference between a professional photograph and an amateur snapshot. Read more
Review:I've read Mlodinow's "Subliminal" first. That is a later effort and actually a lot more accessible than this volume here. Nevertheless, I think it is safe for me to say that both volumes will have literally changed my life.
Rich with entertaining anecdotes from the history of our knowledge of probability and science; written with wit and love. I can't recommend this book enough.
Thank you Mr. Mlodinow! Read more
