We Could Fall
We Could Fall

Review:Rarely have I encountered and read a book which gets into the minds and hearts of the characters as well as this one. I am in awe of the author's skill in laying out an intricate and sensitive plot in which the characters are likable in spite of their obvious flaws.

The character of Jack, the husband, is well drawn and strangely sympathetic when the back story reveals that he and Emmy have been trapped by their circumstances when they were too young to cope. That Jacks' solution and the re... Read more

Paper Hearts
Paper Hearts

Review:Just in time for Valentine's Day, author Courtney Walsh's new book Paper Hearts delivers a love story that is bound to inspire you to start a new tradition. This book totally has a Ya-Ya Sisterhood meets Letters to Juliet meets You've Got Mail kind of feel. I always adore a good love story and this book is definitely one. However, it is also about overcoming loss, disappointment, and starting all over again.

I really loved this book for the struggle the characters walk through. True to li... Read more

A Christmas Memory

Review:This made a perfect little book for my mom to read during her "quiet times" during the holiday. She loved it and promises to pass it along to her daughters. Good read for the holidays. Short and sweet stories. Read more

The Drafter (The Peri Reed Chronicles Book 1)
The Drafter (The Peri Reed Chronicles Book 1)

Review:Great idea, awkward execution.

Loved the Hollows books, but this book was a little off. It is told in an alternating viewpoint in third person between two different people. The descriptions were hard to follow and the plot-line repetitive. Love the idea though! Read more

Imagine Me Gone
Imagine Me Gone

Review:The forms he uses for Michael's perspective are inventive, but I felt like what he had to say about mental illness just didn't match with my beliefs (and I have been exposed to much of that world personally). That doesn't mean that it won't line up with yours, so give it a try. Haslett was a participant in the Iowa's Writer Workshop and he is a good writer, just not my cup of tea. Read more

In the Midst of Winter: A Novel
In the Midst of Winter: A Novel

Review:Isabel Allende, like any prolific talented writer with a long career, has themes that are very meaningful to her, and she explores them in book after book. Politics, family, generational pride and history, human rights and, of course, passion and love are some of these pertinent topics. IN THE MIDST OF WINTER is another example of the beautiful prose of this remarkable strong woman, activist and writer whose every tome seems to only deepen our respect for her talent and wisdom.

CIRCE (#1 New York Times bestseller)
CIRCE (#1 New York Times bestseller)

Review:An excellent reworking of the myths I read in school. I really enjoyed them in the novel format. I hadn't been familiar with the Circe mythology and I found the story compelling. The character was both modern and old with real emotions and behaviors. Altogether well done. Read more

Letters for Scarlet: A Novel
Letters for Scarlet: A Novel

Review:I read Julie C. Gardner's debut novel, Letter for Scarlet, and was pleasantly surprised at how warm and engaging it is. The plot is interesting and keeps you guessing until the end of the book. It was interesting meeting characters years after a tragic event to see how it impacted their lives and decisions. The character development is excellent. Ms. Gardner creates interesting and believable multi-dimensional characters. l I could hardly put this book down, and stayed up way past my bedtim... Stay with Me: A novel
Stay with Me: A novel

Review:A very different book for me. So much tragedy, angst and lies. Well written and a good story but very difficult to understand in parts. The ending is so abrupt, after all that has happened in the story, there are many unanswered questions. Read more

WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2018 - Home Fire
WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FOR FICTION 2018 - Home Fire

Review:The book is divided into sections of different character’s narration, but instead of echoing each other and filling narrative gaps, it did the opposite. I enjoyed reading the first part of the story but couldn’t quite follow the Aneeka stories, the twin brother plot as well as the love story. The author based the story on Antigone but seemed to me too stretched out for that purpose. Also I don’t know how to take the ending. Overall I am quite disappointed. The book seemed to me more like an ove... Read more
