A Play in Three Acts (Perennial Classics) - Our Town
A Play in Three Acts (Perennial Classics) - Our Town

Review:The book was perfectly fine in terms of its looks. It came in great condition. The story itself is a bit boring though. I had to buy it for an acting class. The impact and meaning behind the final scene with Emily is so powerful. But the rest of it fell flat for me. I didn't gain enough insight into the characters to really care about them, I didn't care about anything that was happening, there was no real character or interesting plot development and all the action was very mundane and quick. I... Read more

Spoonbenders: A novel (Random House Large Print)

Review:*I received this book from Penguin First to Read in exchange for an honest review*
Again, I would like to give special thanks to Penguin First to Read for giving Spoonbenders to me to review as an ARC. This was a fantastic book that I wish I didn’t just have for a short period of time to review, but also to own and display on my bookshelf!
This is the story of the psychic Telemachus family that, years before the story begins in 1995 Chicago, was humiliated on live television for being fa... Read more

Raising Steam (Discworld)
Raising Steam (Discworld)

Review:If this is going to be the last discworld book then I am glad it went out like this. While not the most well written, all the humor is there that you would want and it's just a nice story proper ending for everyone involved. Read more

Vol. 1 (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) - In Search of Lost Time
Vol. 1 (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) - In Search of Lost Time

Review:Look, there's great beauty and wit in some of Proust's writing - passages of poetic intensity that really are palpable. But let's be honest, for a modern person plowing through his books, reading Proust is an excruciating experience. One page of Swann's Way is like 20 pages of another classic novel, even one as good as, say, War and Peace. It's endless. And there are six more installments after Swann! I keep picking up and putting down Swann's Way. In that time I've read a dozen other works. Ma... Read more

Answered Prayers
Answered Prayers

Review:There are better books by Truman Capote, but this one is quite interesting. However, if someone is looking for something similar to In Cold Blood or Tiffany's Breakfast, don't even start it. In my opinion, this book is just to enjoy reading Capote's geniality and to have some idea about how the author's life was in one of his most difficult moments, when depression, sex and drugs were all around.
Those parts dedicated to the character Kate McCloud are really the most attractive part because t... Read more

The Sandman, Vol. 6: Fables and Reflections
The Sandman, Vol. 6: Fables and Reflections

Review:One of many things that separated Neil Gaiman's Sandman from other comic book characters is that the foreboding but likable king of dreams has existed since the beginning of time and is supposed to be an archetype common to all cultures. Gaiman was free to visit any time and place he wanted to. However, he set all of Sandman's long story arches in the present. Tales from ancient Rome or Elizabethan England were limited to single issue stories bordering bigger epics. Fables and Reflections, place... Read more

The Master and Margarita
The Master and Margarita

Review:I read the Everyman's Library Glenny Translation.

This is a mixture of the bizarre and the familiar. The writing itself is a bit of both, the story subject is a bit of both and the characters are a bit of both. I thoroughly enjoyed the 'flashbacks' and almost wish the whole story was just those events, but I also enjoyed the chaotic and seemingly random way the modern part of the story developed, not that I even fully understood it all, mayhaps a second read is in order. It is not a di... Read more

Unseen Academicals
Unseen Academicals

Review:While it was a very enjoyable book, I think it was not one of the best Discworld novels. The characters were very well written and interesting, and I'd love to read about Mister Nutt's further adventures. If you like sports, football in particular, you'll find this book highly entertaining. Read more

The Importance of Being Earnest
The Importance of Being Earnest

Review:Thank you Oscar Wilde!! I loved reading this book while waiting in line for the Toronto Film Festival movies to start..... I have so many nuggets from my recent indulgence of Oscar Wilde's witty, fun, original, and rhythmical play, "The Importance of Being Earnest".

Every phrase and expression is a thought worth enjoying and applying to our life today. The play on words, the glittering conversation, the unexpected turn of phrases, it's deliciously clever and a classic it remains forever. ... Read more

The Importance Of Being Earnest And Other Plays (Enriched Classic) (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition)
The Importance Of Being Earnest And Other Plays (Enriched Classic) (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition)

Review:This version of play was good and the actors captured the tone of the play well. The actors playing Lady Bracknell, Gwendolen Fairfax and Cecily Cardew were very good. The male characters were portrayed at an acceptable level but not was good as the female characters. I would recommend this version. Read more
