the fundamentals of light, shadow and reflectivity

Review:I thoroughly enjoyed "How to Draw" by Scott Robertson and Thomas Bertling and especially liked the companion videos available through the Scott Robertson Workshop website. My only complaint with this new release is that the videos can not be played on my laptop like with "H2D", they will only work on my Kindle Fire and it is nice to see the videos on a larger screen. I have tried to contact Scott through his website but have not received a reply as of this writing. When selecting a video for pla... Read more

Creative Illustration
Creative Illustration

Review:"Creative Illustration" is an amazing book. It is extremely useful, advice given in the book is exceptional. Most things discussed and showcased in this book I have never seen in any other art books (contemporary or vintage). Unique. Unbelievably good.
This book made me a better artist, and I feel like now I understand everything with so much more depth.
Loomis also gives a little insight in master Pyle's methods, compositions and advice for success in the industry that is still valid toda... Read more

Pattern Magic
Pattern Magic

Review:While the CONCEPTS of pattern design and manipulation described in this book may someday be useful to me, the actual designs the author demonstrates are largely beyond the bizzare, and the fabrics she chooses may show off the design, but many look like uncomfortable upolstery or home dec fabrics. I suppose if one aspires to do costuming for futuristic science-fiction movies, this book may be more valuable. Read more

The Sewing Book: Over 300 Step-by-Step Techniques

Review:This was purchased in conjunction with a dress form to help learn some of the techniques, fabrics, and different needs (ie: what needles to use when). It has been a great help. It provides lots of basic information, but sometimes, my wife has found that it's good to start with this book, and then go to Youtube or Google to find videos or further detail. My point is, don't plan on this being the only resource you'll use, but it is a great starting point. Highly recommended for people who are ... Read more

It Seemed Important at the Time: A Romance Memoir
It Seemed Important at the Time: A Romance Memoir

Review:I had heard lots good things about Anderson Cooper's new book about his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, and when I ran across this book I decided to start with it since I know nothing about her, other than for the fact that she is a wealthy woman. I was sorely disappointed in this book. She comes across as such a shallow person who is totally self-absorbed that it made me dislike her enough not to want to even finish the book. I got tired of all her self-adoration and put the book down for good. This... Read more

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - 100 Images to Inspire Creativity
Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas - 100 Images to Inspire Creativity

Review:Was disappointed most of the pictures where filled in black and white and several of the pages are tiny images (space fillers) I felt like. Was hoping to see more characters and more of the actual movie in this coloring book. Hoping they will recreate a better version with more photos of Christmas Town, Oogie Boogie's area, Jack playing Santa, etc. Basically, more actual images to color. Love Nightmare Before Christmas, but felt this could have been way better, Read more
