Review:This is not just a book about Dr. Frankl's experiences as a concentration camp (Auschwitz) survivor. It is an inspiring explanation of how a person's outlook on any situation is not subjective, but instead, objective. One's purpose in life and meaning on this world does not have to be defined by society's measure of success. Very inspiring, to say the least. Read more
Review:This book was received on time and in good condition. This was my second try at getting this rare Tepper book so I was glad to get it. My first buy was cancelled and I had to protest to get my money back. It pays to notice the buyers ratings on each seller. Read more
Review:This book was good. It seem such a real account of day to day trying to survive. My single disappointment was his pleasure in making fun of the Germans ...When after liberation he was "in charge" and during rank would make them to things to make himself feel better. I felt that he did it exactly what they did.. took their past experience to try to hurt them. Sometimes no matter how hard it is you just have to let go. Read more
Review:And you thought only the Jewish were persecuted.
Very easy to assume only the Jewish were persecuted, as it's only been well publicized for the past century. But after reading this short book; the reader will eventually easily question, that during those times, how could one be sure that they were only targeting the Jewish based on the rudimentary few nonstandard information collected during this time? (ie. Very few Census records were present during this time.) Can only guess that tho... Read more
Review:The book includes detail and captures emotions and outrage beyond what is in an excellent movie. It captures the Nazis' inhumanity to a population they considered "sub-human," including the irrationality of while fighting a war on two fronts, they dedicated resources sorely needed elsewhere to exterminating millions of people.
Man's hatred of those they consider inferior to themselves reaches an all-time level portrayed in Schindler's List, this irrationality continues today in multiple are... Read more
Review:The book arrived promptly, used library book in fair condition. I was very satisfied with the detailed accounting that was offered from a friend that was
involved with the everyday life of the Frank family
from the time the Frank girls were very young until
their capture by the Germans. How could anyone possibly
deny this "horror" never happened? Read more
Review:A great book which has not fared well. As Eichmann Before Jerusalem shows, Arendt was a little naive in her interpretation of Eichmann, although the banality of the man and the Germans involved in the Holocaust does not mitigate the enormity of their crime. Read more
Review:Imagine an author pitching a book..."The plot concerns a serial killer in occupied Paris during the Second World War. The killer is a physician who has dabbled in suburban politics, has a history of mental illness. His victims are gangsters and Jews, who engage him to obtain safe passage to South America after loading all their valuables into suitcases and sewing their jewelry into the lining of their clothes. The doctor drugs them and then tortures them in a homemade dungeon before dissecting t... Read more
Review:I purchased this book after talking to someone at a car dealership!! She had told me about it and I thought it sounded interesting. It was better than I had thought it would be. This is a first hand account from a surviver. Some of the areas were glossed over but enough detail was given to get a good picture of what was happening and what these people lived through. Review:I have read books on both the Nuremburg trials and the role of the doctors in the Nazi period, but this book gives an entirely different perspective- that of court reporter. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Read more
