A Manual for Creating Atheists
A Manual for Creating Atheists

Review:If you honestly think that faith is "pretending to know things you don't know", then you are dangerously naive and not just when it comes to religion. For example, Dawkins has said in his great, new book that he was abused when he was younger. I have faith that Dawkins is telling the truth even though his statement is not falsifiable due to the passage of time and there is no hard evidence to support his statement. My conviction that he is telling the truth is based upon my judgment of the man a... Read more

Sex Object: A Memoir
Sex Object: A Memoir

Review:Currently the top negative review states, "She start [sic] off as if her problems are the problems of all women."
As a reminder to this critic, the book is titled "Sex Object: A MEMOIR." This is one woman's life, although I can imagine a commonality to the very troubling issues discussed herein; I am a man, so will only ever know of most such issues through secondhand accounts. As at least half of my friends and colleagues are women, this book is not so eye-opening and confrontational to me a... Read more

And Other Things I Still Have to Explain - You Can't Touch My Hair
And Other Things I Still Have to Explain - You Can't Touch My Hair

Review:Just finished this book. As a Black woman, I found the subject matter fairly interesting, but the writing style was a little too wordy for me. Also, a lot of the material was not funny where the author's intent was clearly meant to convey funny. Being much older than the author, I found that many of her references in this book were people/things I could relate too. But overall a decent read. Read more

When They Call You a Terrorist - A Black Lives Matter Memoir
When They Call You a Terrorist - A Black Lives Matter Memoir

Review:Approached the book with an open mind, and can say its only good for dark humor. Self perpetuating, its another romanticized story of a struggle that only exists in a simple mind with ego distortion . One star for the ghost writter who pinned it. Read more

Kill Him! The Pilgrimage of Psychotherapy Patients
Kill Him! The Pilgrimage of Psychotherapy Patients

Review:I read this book when it first came out in the 70s. I was impressed then and was impressed again when I read it this time. No complaints there.

This is a book written by a psychotherapist for psychotherapists and patients of psychotherapy. I am neither, but there are good thoughts and things of great worth to me between these covers.

The book itself, though newly printed and bound, was rather cheaply put-together. I am careful with my books, but several pages just fell out of this ... Read more

Beyond Good and Evil (AmazonClassics Edition)
Beyond Good and Evil (AmazonClassics Edition)

Review:Forget Nietzsche the philosopher. As he himself said, 'Before you ask what a philosopher thinks, find out what he wants' (or something to that effect), and, as Freud said, "He had a sharper understanding of himself than any man in recent history." You could blow holes in the logical validity of his arguments, but he has never been about logic; all of his texts are deeply personal, and show an outstandingly intelligent and sensitive man grappling with the same issues that plague most people. Alth... Read more

An Edinburgh Philosophical Guide (Edinburgh Philosophical Guides)
An Edinburgh Philosophical Guide (Edinburgh Philosophical Guides)

Review:I am not a student of philosophy and this is my first book to read by the author. Naturally, I didnt find the book an easy read, but I can't blame the author since Im on unfamiliar territory. However, I really enjoyed reading the book and its amazing how many phrases are worth memorizing. The book is very original and very intelligent. From what I read Nietzsche is against organised religion, so I thought it was quite strange that he chose a Prophet to deliver this thoughts to us. Read more

A Book for Everyone and Nobody (Oxford World's Classics)
A Book for Everyone and Nobody (Oxford World's Classics)

Review:This book does not have any easy answers. It is not the purpose of the book. The purpose of the book is to make the reader think for themselves. I find the book a comforting read - it gives hope and meaning to everyone that is dissatisfied with the answers given by organized religion, political parties, or just the usual howling mobs of sheep that think that just because they are members of a group they are wolves.

Nietzsche probably understood suffering and loss better than most, but he ... Read more

Out of the Spirit of Music (Penguin Classics) - The Birth of Tragedy
Out of the Spirit of Music (Penguin Classics) - The Birth of Tragedy

Review:Nietszche:Beyond Good and Evil, reviewed by [email protected] In the early chapters, Nietzsche in effect wipes the slate clean, showing how previous philosophers and moralities were in their grasp inadequate. There is a "definite fundamental scheme of possible philosophies"(Aphorism 20), as there is of possible moralities(260), and particular philosphers and moralists merely fill in their respective places on these spectrums. Nietzsche offers a comprehensive critique of all such systems. T... Read more

Antichrist
Antichrist

Review:Although untrained in philosophy (as you will undoubtedly infer), I have read quite a bit on my own. Of course, while reading philosophy I often (usually) encounter writings which denigrate Christianity, often times with very solid argument. However, I have never been as captivated by a book which stands in such complete opposition to my own beliefs as I was by "The Antichrist."

Nietzsche's passion, rage, scorn and conviction are utterly compelling. Compared to such bland offerings lik... Read more
