Review:I read mysteries and horror/fantasy only occasionally because I can usually guess whodunit or whydunit (as I did here) or because I find the fantasy too unconvincing (Tolkien being an exception), so why bother. However, I am enjoying this series, despite some sloppy writing/editing and holes in the plots, because Hamilton does create a convincing alternate reality and her chracterizations are, on the whole, very good. And Jean-Claude is just a great character, as is Anita. However, [SPOILERS A... Read more
Review:This installment of Anita Blake finds her focused on her primary job as an Animator. Anita is contracted for a raising of the dead to settle a property dispute in the Ozark mountains. While in the area, Anita is called in to advise on a preternatural killing. Unfortunately, the cop in charge is a woman with a chip on her shoulder the size of Alaska, and she does not want anyone interfering with her investigation.
To make matters worse, the age of the bodies is about another hundred years b... Read more
Review:Burnt Offerings is one of the best action packed books of the series. Some of the earlier ones focused more on the police work and this does too but it also gets really into Anita's personal life (and relationships) and has some moments where you wonder who's going to make it. Great as always, Laurell K. Hamilton! Absolutely loved it and can't wait to get the next one. Read more
Review:"Obsidian Butterfly" is book 9 in the Anita Blake series. It is very well written, full of suspense and mystery. Even though we have already met Edward, we never actually got to know more about him, except that he is a scary character who kills monsters and has no remorse. He usually just appears and disappears without trace. But in this particular book we are invited in to his world......
Edward invites Anita to his home town, for her to help him solve an unusually messy crime. We meet h... Read more
Review:Narcissus in Chains was a book I eagerly anticipated. Like the rest of the Anita Blake series, I waited until I had a whole day fre to read it, knowing I would have a hard time putting it down. That much was true, but with the end of the book I felt something was missing. I'm not sure I can pinpoint exatly what it was, but the plot, while filled to bursting with new characters and old, just did not make it. I've been waiting for some sense of closure, insight, or sercure attachment on Anita's pa... Read more
Review:This Savage Song clearly has a theme: the monster who wants to be human and the human who wants to be a monster. Yes, they are going to meet on the side of human rather than monster. But the premise of the worldbuilding here is intriguing and the story moves briskly. It's a quick read with a solid ending that does not rest on a cliffhanger.
Story: Kate Harker's father is the warlord controlling half the city of Verity; a city under siege by monsters manifested from humanity's evil. If y... Read more
Review:Del Toro's trilogy is a great addition to the genre, I just wish the books were better written. In The Strain, book 1 in the series, the first 100 pages are excellent. Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan's intro to the series is as suspenseful and scary as Ive read. But then it seems as if they get bored with the process of writing and rushed through the rest of the book stringing the plot together. There are memorable atmospheric moments and characters here and there, but they are stitched to... Read more
Review:The agora series was a well rounded romp clearly illustrating the beauty of love and protecting those around you, and also showing the baser human traits that become prevalent in many during times of trial. Loved the character Frank Talbot. Fabulously fallible. Read more

Review:I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
Twin siblings Shaun and Sarah are demon trackers, throughout the entire book they are tracking down demons, vampires and witches. I really enjoyed the storyline but due to the length of the book it took awhile to read it. Read more
