The Science and Philosophy of Meditation and Enlightenment

Review:For those skeptical of supernatural claims and theistic versions of Buddhism, Robert Wright continues the quest that his earlier books such as The Moral Animal and The Evolution of God began. These titles hint at Wright's terrain, where fact and speculation, the tangible and the experiential, blur. He explores in Why Buddhism Is True the worldview that in the time of the historical Buddha, could not have been clearly expressed in pre-scientific, and very pre-Darwinian terms to human mindsets.Read more

Delivered on a Significant Occasion - about Living a Compassionate Life

Review:This book was suggested by Shane Parrish at Farnam Street and I'm thankful I had the opportunity to read. The book was on the money and the insights were invaluable. This was my first encounter with DFW and his writing (or speeches) and I'm curious to explore his writing. This is water will be a regular read for me and a reminder of the choices we made every day in our lives. Read more

A Book for Everyone and No One (Penguin Classics)
A Book for Everyone and No One (Penguin Classics)

Review:I bought this for a 20th C. philosophy in the wake of Nietzche class and found it an awkward read. Much declamation and lots of "THEE" and "THOU"'s. I found the Hollingdale 1961 so much more readable and easy to understand. I plan to reread the work in the Hollingdale translation since I don't think this translation made the work very enjoyable. The Power of Mathematical Thinking - How Not to Be Wrong

Review:I had a relationship with this book. I glanced at her at the bookstore and passed her by twice. Gave her the eye and read her back side. I opened her up and read a few pages. I wrote down her title and found her on kindle because she was cheaper there. I started slowly and read the first few chapters. She remained hidden in my kindle for a few weeks. Boredom. I remembered she still existed and resumed reading. We took a walk through history and she explained all these wonderful things. ... Read more

Review:I have know of Nietzsche since highschool and expected this to be hard to read and understand, but it is worse than I expected. The fault lies, in my opinion, with the philosipher's style more than anything. Don't try it if you have never read the man before. Read more

Simple Responses to 20 Common Arguments for the Existence of God
Simple Responses to 20 Common Arguments for the Existence of God

Review:This is perhaps the best place to start. The author's arguments are rational and fair. Though I'd be considered a relatively new "born again athiest," this is one of the best books that I've read so far on this topic. Read more

Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching Adapted for a New Age - The Tao of Leadership
Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching Adapted for a New Age - The Tao of Leadership

Review:Leadership is not something you are born with. Nor something you buy in the local deli. It is a life-long process of ever changing, growing, empowering others. And in the end - the best leaders are those, people around them will say "We did it ourselves." If you are ready to develop yourself into being such a leader - this is the right book for you. But be worn and remember - it will take you years to develop this unique capacity. The good thing, though, is that each and every one of us ha... Read more
