Elections & Political Process
Review:A really good book in the analysis of the present situation with the "Deep State" but weak on a possible solution. The system can't be reformed. I fear the best we can hope for is either a Soviet style collapse or another bloody Civil War. Pessimistic yes but at least it is 20 years away. Read more
Review:Well written book that included many insights into RFK and his sense of loyalty to family and friends, while bringing out RFK' s strong sense of justice. Also provided insight into the author and his experiences in this milieu. Read more
Review:Those who pick up “Chasing Hillary,” written by a New York Times reporter who covered both her 2008 and 2016 campaigns, expecting a love fest will surely be disappointed. Amy Chozick is more adversary than fan; the book, unlike so many campaign biographies, is not at all ponderous. That’s perhaps because, to paraphrase Trollope, she does not dwell over the the story at great length, as she might do if she loved her (“The Eustace Diamonds”).
The book’s title is apt. Chozick chased Hillary,... Read more
Review:A well written and onverwhelmingly sad book! The first chapter about pro-wrestling was hilarious and I enjoyed it very much. The rest of the is probably just as true, although it was rehashing some ideas I've heard before Hedges dark vision of our country hit me hard. Twice I felt so sick to my stomach that I threw the book across the room. The biggest kicker was the final chapter were Hedges, instead of grasping at solutions, says there is no hope except maybe for love. LOVE!?!?! God dammit! Read more
Review:I definitely wouldn't consider myself progressive IN ANY WAY. Maybe a few liberal tendencies, but by-and-far I didn't vote for (either) Clinton, so I would definitely consider myself better-aligned to Shapiro's viewpoints (but definitely not abortion and his denial of human effects on the earth).
However, he builds of many great arguments through numerous examples — which ARE thought-provoking — but so many teams he resorts to typical schoolyard bullying tactics to "prove" (otherwise... Read more
Review:I purchased this for one of my college classes and have been enjoying the book so far. The one thing I do not like about it is the cover. Textbooks with paper covers do not last the entire semester if you are actually doing your reading and homework. Read more
Review:Matthews, now known for screaming at people on CNBC, was originally the author (Way back in the late 1980s) of this timeless book about how legislation is crafted, and deals are done.
After reading this book, you will agree that legislation is like sausage: You don't want to know how it is made or what goes into it.
Hardball is a brutal insight for the naive into the power game, the relationship game, and the lobbying game. Legislation is not drafted to protect the poor and innocent. Ra... Read more
Review:Didn't realize Hillary was so disliked by so many. It's scary. Always tried to keep an open mind about left vesus right, but after reading this...I don't see how anyone could vote for this person. Problem is, many women support her because they won't look more into all that baggage she carries and will cast their vote based solely on her sex. Read more
Review:This paper has all the qualities one could want... soft, strong, thoroughly absorbent, dissolves easily and doesn't clog the pipes.
However, I am having to knock off four stars because there seem to be some kind of PRINT on it, which gets inkstains in places you would rather not have them. Read more
Review:This book is super insightful and well written. Doug Wead is a master story teller. I am amazed at the intrigue and details brought forth in this book. The facts check out, but I am amazed at how much of this stuff is covered up by the media. Read more
