Review:I cannot praise this book highly enough. It was a wonderful read. After seeing the movie I was compelled to read the book. It did not disappoint.
The story was wonderful since it was based on a true story. This is a must read. Read more
Review:The book, written in 1957, is based on an important number of discussions with refugees who were fleeing Hungary, after the anti-communist revolution against communism was crushed by the Soviet tanks. The presentation of the events of the revolution is vivid and realistic, as long as it does is limited to facts and does not attempt to explain what happened in Hungary in 1956. Because besides the presentation of the events, the book about the Bridge at Andau sadly demonstrates the inability of a ... Read more
Review:A highly technical read!! Kudos to the author for all of his supportive issues regarding U-2 flying, since that was a prelude to outer space travel. The main theme was also well done - the three spies who were exchanged on the bridge. I felt like I had known them personally after reading their "biographies". So very sad of how our government treated Gary Powers after all was said and done!! He died doing what he had always wanted to do - flying!! I recommend this book to anyone who is inte... Read more
Review:This is a very funny book, written by, in this reader's humble opinion, the funniest writer of our time, gay or straight! I started to read this book on the subway, but I had to stop because people were starring at me and asking me why I was laughing so loud and so hysterically! I finished it at home, and only stopped once when I thought that I was going to wet myself from laughing so hard.
This story is sweet, sentimental, funny, and shocking. Anyone who is a fan of Dan Savage's advise c... Read more
Review:I started reading Morrie: In his own words. I was disappointed in the book because I felt that there was too much repetition. I tried returning the book since I really did not initially accept it because the price was not initially given. I felt that the book was overpriced and did not continue reading it. I was unsuccessful in returning the book because my password was changed without my permission. Read more
Review:As it seems w everyone else, I too came across this book after reading "Memoirs of a geisha". While the book was interesting w technicalities and structure of the "geiko" culture, Mineko did not capture me. I will never understand how readers connect more to a fictional character than a real person. I'm still waiting to receive mineko's other book, I'm hoping it will be better than this one. If you fell in love w chiyo completely, at least attempt to find this book at your local library. This is... Read more
Review:I know of no other writer who makes words truly live like Henry Miller does. "Cancer" is his best (although the neglected "Colossus of Maroussi" runs a close second), full of enthusiasm, rampant lust-driven adventures, a man living though it rain crocodiles, a visionary portrait of a person determined to live in this cracked and dying earth that will drag you down and suffocate you if you let it. Living has nothing to do with money. It has nothing to do with prestige, nothing to do with a career... Read more
Review:Here is a book written with both the skill and insight of a high school freshman. While attempting to impress the reader with how cool she can be, the author succeeds in demonstrating that she should stick to writing for television. You might find the book useful if you have a table with one short leg that needs support. Read more
Review:Disappointed. Just another story of a jock drinking, partying and cheating. Some interesting locker room tidbits and a lot about the football culture, but in the end I just felt sorry for the guy. Was that the intent? Read more
