Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life
Celebrating the Extraordinary Nature of Everyday Life

Review:Well done! A nice book of short stories of encouragement, by realizing that you're not the only one who sometimes misses the goodness in life. This book reminds me to slow down and enjoy life for what it is...GOOD! Read more

Now It Can Be Told
Now It Can Be Told

Review:Starts out slow, but then really gets into the gruesome detail of trench warfare. It's hard to imagine what these soldiers went through. Then it goes into what the boys came into when they finally returned home. WWI was in many ways one of the worst wars ever. Read more

Seven Pillars of Wisdom (Wordsworth Classics of World Literature)
Seven Pillars of Wisdom (Wordsworth Classics of World Literature)

Review:Most interesting story; actual history; detailed life of the Arabs at war, the manner of their living in the desert & in the oases & a look at how the British officers looked at the war scene & played a part in it. A look into how war was fought 100 years ago. The inclusion of the maps of the various regions where the battles were being fought is very interesting & most important. The story or review is told in a beautiful, easy to read prose & is really, a delight to read. Read more

Stilwell and the American Experience in China
Stilwell and the American Experience in China

Review:Barbara Tuchman examines the history of Sino-American relations in the 20th Century through the life of the highly gifted soldier, Joseph Stilwell. Through his Army career, we see him intertwined with China and her struggles through the first five decades of this century. We follow Stilwell as he meets an exceptional number of Chinese leaders of all political persuasions and developes an intimate knowledge of China. Flown to China after the start of World War II, General Stilwell is face... Read more

The Battles of Chateau Thierry and Belleau Wood - With the Help of God and a Few Marines

Review:I found WWI warfare in France interesting in terms of moving of troops and supplies with a minimum
emphasis on gassing and casualties. I learned who's careers began in Bellow Woods. Well written. Read more

The Restless Soul of the World's Most Notorious Atheist
The Restless Soul of the World's Most Notorious Atheist

Review:I recognize that the majority of the one-star reviewers of this book didn't read past the provocative title. Having been in attendance at a few of the events depicted in the book, and having followed Hitchens online since then, I came to this book with deep curiosity, wondering if it would be consistent with what I observed between Hitchens and Taunton. It was.

It's not surprising to learn that a public figure like Hitchens kept some things to himself, or that there was a difference betwe... Read more

Author of America (Eminent Lives) - Thomas Jefferson
Author of America (Eminent Lives) - Thomas Jefferson

Review:An enjoyable examination of Thomas Jefferson, his life, his foibles and his inconsistencies. If you enjoy Hitch's writing style and acerbic denouements, you'll enjoy this. If not, probably best to steer clear. Also, Hitch was, if nothing else, a well researched fellow who willingly slaughtered sacred cows. If you're coming into this with ideas of a political agenda or that Jefferson was a consistent and affable gentleman... You would do well to examine those beliefs in this book. Read more

Mortality
Mortality

Review:Christopher Hitchens will be missed. His intellectual curiosity and more importantly his intellectual honesty made him stand out. I believe in God, but I love listening to his arguments as an atheist. I agree with his arguments against organized religion but do not think that's the same thing as believing or not believing in God. How anyone could look up on a man and mind such as Christopher Hitchens possessed and think it's the result of random mutations over ages is not an argument that even C... Read more
