Review:Most interesting story; actual history; detailed life of the Arabs at war, the manner of their living in the desert & in the oases & a look at how the British officers looked at the war scene & played a part in it. A look into how war was fought 100 years ago. The inclusion of the maps of the various regions where the battles were being fought is very interesting & most important. The story or review is told in a beautiful, easy to read prose & is really, a delight to read. Read more
Review:I found WWI warfare in France interesting in terms of moving of troops and supplies with a minimum
emphasis on gassing and casualties. I learned who's careers began in Bellow Woods. Well written. Read more
Review:I recognize that the majority of the one-star reviewers of this book didn't read past the provocative title. Having been in attendance at a few of the events depicted in the book, and having followed Hitchens online since then, I came to this book with deep curiosity, wondering if it would be consistent with what I observed between Hitchens and Taunton. It was.
It's not surprising to learn that a public figure like Hitchens kept some things to himself, or that there was a difference betwe... Read more
Review:Hitch was a miracle of intelligence in his anti-religious and outspoken views on political people and events. Unfortuately, this book is merely a recital his early years, his rise in the journalistic world, and other biographical details. These are comparatively uninteresting since they do not tell us how the man became the voice of the oppoisition of religous bigotry, an apostle of secularism. I miss his voice raised in countless debates as he laid waste to his opponents; arguments. Neither... Read more
Review:The book arrived promptly, used library book in fair condition. I was very satisfied with the detailed accounting that was offered from a friend that was
involved with the everyday life of the Frank family
from the time the Frank girls were very young until
their capture by the Germans. How could anyone possibly
deny this "horror" never happened? Read more
Review:The book is very interesting and very well written. Grass did not grow under this guys feet so it is always on to the next thing. The most interesting part is the book is an amazing read but I am not sure that I would be friends with him. He comes across as a bull in a china shop a lot of the time. Some of that might be the directness of the language as this is still his second language. Read more
Review:I liked this book mainly because it is unlike what is out there. I expected it to be a bit juvenile from its description but it really, really is juvenile.
Still, fun to read. However, the descriptions seem to blur together after awhile because they are so repetitive.
It found its place by the toilet where it made a fun toilet reader. Read more
Review:I may be writing this review a little prematurely, as I am only halfway through this book, however...I have already purchased additional copies for my friends. I have underlined, dog-earred and referred to various pages on several occassions. When the Heart Waits gives valuable insight into mid-life. It shares information as to the benefits gained in "being still". Waiting is not "doing nothing". It is both "passive and passionate". As many of us struggle with "what should I do next", ofte... Review:I have never written a book review before but had to on this one. My mom read this and raved about it and encouraged me to pick it up. I did and I am so thankful I did! I bought myself a copy and have encouraged all my friends to read it. After reading this book I was truly inspired to spend more time with the Lord...getting to know Him through His Word. He really is all I have whether I am in a state of plenty or want. And this book was so encouraging to hear the testimonies of how God answered... Read more
Review:Extremely boring. I have been to Biltmore Estate, at least 20 times. It is one of my favorite places to go. Thought this book would give some
fascinating insight into the mansion and it's owners, instead it's just ramblings on the Biltmore forestry mission, it is one of the
dullest books, I have ever read. No stories of glittering soirees, or fascinating asides of the owners. Apparently George and Edith
were as exciting as milquetoast. I'm still forcing myself to read it, hopefully it w... Read more
