Review:This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It was full of twists and turns, great characters and a great story line. Difficult to put down. I can't wait for the second one to come out. Read more
Review:First of all, those who haven't heard about Robin Hood, please raise your hands! ... No one? You sure? Okay, let's move on then.
I won't waste your time introducing you the characters, because, let's face it, there is no one who never heard about the outlaws who were something like folktale heroes, constantly making a fool of nobles, robbing money and food so they could stay alive, but also to give back something to the villagers. Just search for his name on Goodreads and will find a shit... Read more
Review:Very disappointing and predictable. I enjoyed reading about the Dakota, but the characters were nothing new to me and a times a little boring and stereotyped. There was no real mystery about the love affairs either. Read more
Review:This was an okay book, but it would've been better with more description of what the huts looked like. I was glad there were pictures at the end. Also, it ended quite abruptly and didn't seem really true emotionally. I won't give it away. As I said, it was okay, but not real satisfying. Read more
Review:More like 3.5 stars.
Like the other Beatriz Williams novels I have read, this one is plot driven. It’s structured like a puzzle. As you read, you slowly assemble different sections of a larger puzzle but don’t see the entire picture until the very end.
It all takes place on a small resort island off New England coast in the years between 1930 and 1970. (The author reveals in the Afterword that the location is modeled on Fisher’s Island. But if you aren’t familiar with that name, th... Read more
Review:If you looking for a clean Christian book don't read this. I don't understand how books like this are put into a Christian category but as I read reviews of so called Christian books I am very grateful to the reviewers that warn about sex and bad language. Read more
Review:Some characters are real and some are fictitious, and they meld together beautifully in this novel. Set in pre-WW1, the writer's thoughts and ideas expressed in the voices of her characters are intelligent and imaginative. A great book for adults. Read more
Review:This book tells a quaint tale of life's challenges in Iraq. If you enjoy a very easy read and a nice story with a pleasant ending this is for you.
I enjoyed it's simplicity enough to give it four stars. Read more
Review:Any book that makes me cry while riding on the NYC subway deserves the description of touching.
In a few short pages, the author sets up a story of three women in transition. Family dynamics, career challenges, and geographical choices all play a role. It is well written and satisfying.
The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are:
- it is too short
- I wanted a little more depth on the women's relationships with their husbands
- I wanted a little more consistency about the ... Read more
Review:At first, this seemed like a pretty typical espionage thriller and nothing too special or exciting. But as the story progressed, the more I got involved in it and enjoyed it. The space race element was intriguing, but it was the characters that really got me hooked. Through their history and relationships, which unfold to the reader as the amnesiac main character rediscovers them, Follett dramatizes how communism ultimately means the sacrifice of all one's own personal values, everything and ...
